Hello all. First post and a odd question for you all. I went to install the Non DRL flasher module and when I removed the panel..this device fell down. It looks to be aftermarket. Any thoughts as to what this might be?

Whatever it is, it transmits. It has an FCC ID, see if you can Google it.

Your wife installed a tracking module to confirm those "honey I'm working late" nights.

Thanks all. Yeah, I forgot to mention I just purchased the truck used from a dealer. 2015 Crewmax 5.7...
Well, I guess I might need to follow the wire and see where the other end might leed to.
Also, from the DFW area here in TX.

That’s exactly what that is. It’s a tracker. Previous owner was being tracked, mostly likely by their spouse. It’s pretty common place.

Makes me wonder if someone still has control of this module?

This is some scary crap. With my GMC app, I can unlock my truck, start it, schedule maintenance, get diagnostic alerts, etc.

This or used as a company vehicle. All 800 of our vehicles and 500 pieces of equipment (skid steers, backhoes, etc) all have GPS locators.

A lot of these devices disable the vehicle if removed. FYI

We have something similar we use in .mil when transporting equipment. They have RFID and can transmit in L-Band which is what GPS transmits and receives on.

Could it be that a previous owner possibly had a DUI and had the blow to start feature and that is just part of that system?

There may be other reasons for it being there. It seems to have been more thought out than usual. Most suspicious spouses just use the ones with the magnets on them, and put them on the outside of the vehicle. It needs to be easy to remove and recharge.
That said, it’s hard to tell from the picture, but are any of those wires actually part of the device, or is it just zip tied to them? It also looks like there may be a spot for a charger to attach.

@jlaval , don’t be surprised if you come across a VAR in there also.

Our company uses them for performance tracking and verifications. We get calls in all the time stating our trucks were at a restaurant for three hours, and customer service can look it up and say “bullshit, it was 33 minutes and 45 seconds, to be exact...”.

Interesting device for sure. My ol’ lady knows I like hookers and blow, no need to spend money on this crap.

Why not drive back to the dealer and tell them to remove it. Should not have been there to begin with when the truck was put up for sale.

We were told this very thing by our fleet department after they were installed. If unplugged, the vehicle would be disabled.

This kinda stemmed from a Utility worker picking up hookers in his company truck and having extended break periods.
Another one was crew supervisors were running side businesses and not being on site for the crews all day long.

Always someone trying to get around the system.

So to answer your question, I just pay attention.

That’s a mycarcontrol module, it works with aftermarket remote starters like the Evo one, it will let you start your vehicle from an app on your phone. What is it connected to ?

Sure as hell it is. Great eye. After researching, if the OP can't get control of it, someone else can unlock doors and what not with it. Since it is GPS'd, that would come the hell out quickly if it ever sits outside.
