i have a unichip for my 03 Tundra. Anyone know any tuners in California that would tune it? It’s currently causing the engine to stall, and unichip won’t do anything about it. So I thought I would try a custom shop to dyno and tune the truck.

    Where did you get it?
Is it the plug and play with full harness?
Do you know what it is tuned for?
Do you have access to Unichips map library and a cable to change tunes?
What do you mean by stall? Starts up and then dies? Dies when coming to a stop?

I have one in my truck and have the cable. You might want to replace whatever files are on it and use a stored file from Unichip library.

I got it from unichip, it’s the plug and play harness, and it came pre-tuned for catback exhaust, headers, and intake. But it continues to stall the truck. So by stall I mean I will drive for approx 100km the revs will drop, and it’ll stop running, I’ll get a check engine light, and I’ll lose all power including power steering. I remove the chip, start it a few times to prime the fuel pump and it’s back to normal. I was also unaware of the unichips “library” or the cable necessary to change tunes. I’m from Canada but I’ll be traveling to California so I figured I’d try to get it working

If you go on their website they have the cable for $45. I believe when you buy the cable it gives you a code to enter on their database and you can then download pre made tunes.

I have a tune for headers, catback, and air filter on mine. I also have valet mode which won't let it rev past 2k rpm and kill mode which just acts like a kill switch. Unless they have changed things you can only toggle between two modes, I opted for the 5 mode switch upgrade.

When you remove the chip are you removing the entire harness?

Did they give you any feedback at all or just not responsive?

I’ll look into getting the cable then. Would I just download the tunes to a computer then plug the chip into it?

I was back and forth with unichip for 3 months, where the guy would go 2 plus weeks without responding and continued to insist it was my truck that was the problem. I brought it to a shop and had them screenshot everything in their diagnostic reader and code reader and the truck works fine without the chip. He refused to take it back and look into it and it’s been sitting in my room for about 8 months. And yes I’m removing literally everything from the truck.

That's shitty. They used to have pretty decent customer support, I think something happened a few years back. Last time I reached out to them they directed me to some odd supplier for the 5 channel switch. The supplier sold Unichip stuff but it was all stuff that is not on their own website.

To download tunes, you load a software to your PC and take the chip out of your truck(just disconnect battery and remove chip, leave harness alone). The cable goes from USB to the chip, you have a folder where you'll have 2 tunes to play with (A and B). You can browse their stored tunes and find what you want, then load it to the folder. Once there you load it to the Unichip. It took me a while to figure out but once I did it's almost as easy as loading a picture to a forum.

Really curious why your truck is cutting out. I can't imagine it being a tune that causes that, sounds more intermittent. That harness isn't fun to work with either.

    Thank you for the info!

From what we did on diagnostic testing there was nothing wrong with the truck. I had the chip in and out 4 different times. I think the truck runs too lean and there’s not enough fuel so the revs drop right off.

I'm sure your truck isn't the problem. What I'm worried about is if the chip itself is damaged somehow. If Unichip really isn't helping I would try the cable and reflash the chip. It's only $45, if you can get it while in CA probably saves you a bit.

    https://www.unichip.us/product/usb-to-unichip-cable/

You can load and reload as many times or files as you'd like, for free. I would maybe try the map for stock truck on map B and the closest to what you want on map A. Then flip the toggle to run on map B to see how it goes, if that's okay then try map A.

It could be that the unichip software is corrupted for some reason. If you can remove and reinstall software, that might cure the problem. If not, remove and sell . Try jet performance products, they have good stuff. Get rid of the unichip

I am not aware of any off the shelf tunes that work on 1st generation Tundra trucks.

I don't know much about these Tuners. What exactly do they promise to do? I'm curious.

If you have a super charger it's good to have, you can make adjustments to the fuel and timing. If you don't have a supercharger then it doesn't do much for you. I only got it because I was curious and I wanted valet mode and I saw them on sale for $300 during a holiday. Now that I'm moving out of apartments I might take mine out.

Ugh, Unichip. I had one on a turbo Mazda Protege. Worst purchase ever. Worst customer service ever. Luckily, I had bought it from a distributor and they took care of me. They took the Unichip back and helped me install a Greddy E-Manage.

If they won't take it back, you will have to try and reflash the unit like @Darkness stated. There's very little actual tuning being done by the Unichip. It's basically a signal interceptor.

I was trying to find you a tuner in Cali, but all my Unichip tuner contacts have either gone out of business or won't touch them anymore.
