Unable to respond to Mass/Group texts using HU

If someone texts just me, I can respond to them using the pre-programmed responses in my 2016 Tundra SR5. If someone texts me as part of a mass/group text and I try to reply, the headunit says there was an error sending the response and no one ever gets it. I thought it was my phone (Galaxy S8) but I just got a new Galaxy S23 and am having the same problem. Anyone else run into this issue and know how to fix it?
