Started flying my first generation Mavic Pro again. I bought a new drone today. Hopefully I will be testing it out in a day or two.

 

Are you up to speed on Remote ID?

 

What is that? Refresh my memory.

 

I just googled it. I knew about the registration from a few years ago but have never heard of this. As mentioned I have the original Mavic Pro, and the one I just bought is the DJI Air 3. I wonder if it has the ID.

 

Manufacturer's needed it in place for new production last year.

This year, consumer's needed to have a current UAV with it, or a module added (3rd party) if they fly.

The mid-September date just got pushed out (enforcement-wise), mere days before it was set to be effective. Not much notice, and it was already this month as a result of other delays.

Air 3 is good to go, but your 1st generation Mavic Pro isn't as of right now. Just a word of caution.

 

You have till mid-March to figure out your Mavic Pro.

 

DJI is planning OTA firmware updates to bring a lot of models (including mine) into compliance before the end of the year.

 

Thanks for the information. It's definitely the first I have heard about it. I found a link on the FAA site talking about it and how to register. It said that some older drones may be able to "upgrade" with a firmware update. I'll have to reach out to DJI.

I got a Mavic Air 2 on eBay last week, I flew it in my backyard & then looked for and gave it a Firmware update Saturday.

No; Firmware upgrade will available by September 30, 2023 at the latest

Does this mean I am good or I'll need another sometime in the next few weeks?

Also, looking at the DJI thread posted, do I need to do some kind of licensing for purely amateur flights nowhere near protected airspace? I'm a total noob at this.

 

I would check for firmware in a few weeks. Your drone flying software should notify you when its available.

• All drones must be registered, except those that weigh 0.55 pounds or less (less than 250 grams) and are flown under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations.
• Drones registered under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations cannot be flown under Part 107

 

Get it registered and write your registration number on the drone and you should be gtg.

 

To get the UAS SN I need to wait for it to get the update? It won't accept the drone SN.

 

Probably. Sounds like .gov - make a law requiring registration then build a system making it impossible to register.

Mavic Air 2 isn't compliant yet, as well. At one point, DJI announced it would be by this December. You will have to do the wait and see...

MA2 is a great UAV, it was my first DJI. I went to Mini 3 Pro with smart controller. Love it, but do miss ADS-B on the MA2.

I really needed to get into a smart controller. I hit the upper and lower temperature limits of my iPad during flights (yes, I push the limits...). Harrowing experiences.

Spectacular program. If you pass the pre-test in the program twice, then fail the actual exam, he will reimburse you the cost of the actual exam. And, I have lifetime access to material, so I can take my recurrence tests.

 

I looked at trust and read the lessons on one of the sites linked. I don't see the link to the test.

Got the controller, the drone was still bound to the seller. I messaged him, he said sorry, my bad, fixed & it was.

The air sense says it is enabled.

 

That's a great start, but each jurisdiction has its own laws....

FAA is Federal, but you'll also want to check State Statues, County and Municipal Ordinances anywhere you'll be flying as well to be sure you're in compliance

 

I've been to York, ME once. We stayed at the Union Bluff Hotel. That was a cute town.
