Stock, better, best! Here we are comparing two ARP head studs to a stock head bolt. The black line stands in for the top of the female threads in the block, and shows approximately where the studs will sit in relation when inserted. The deeper in they go, and the more thread engagement they have, the better (obviously).

    Stock head bolt top.

A stud from the ARP 3UR-FE kit 203-4704 sits in the middle. It has the same thread engagement, roughly 37mm, as the stock head bolt. Easy peasy.

The bottom stud is from ARP kit 203-4306, which is for the Toyota 2AZ 4 cyl. engine. It has a generous 47mm of thread engagement, which the block easily accommodates. The design is intended to be bottomed in the block, and has the perfect dimension to do so, if a little machine work on the stud bores is undertaken. It can probably run in the stock unmodified block, which is how the picture shows it, but it will sit a little higher in the head (clearance should be checked).

    Happy engine building.
