So only have about 1,500 miles but was planning on having the piped in engine noise shut off by the dealer at 5k service. After 2 months so far, it really doesn't bother me (besides knowing it's fake) so looking for opinions from the owner's who have had it disabled. Thanks!

Drop the tailgate and drive it, then you can make a decision

The fake noise in my truck quit working when the tailgate was down. Go figure.
Had mine disabled this week. Much better imo.

I still hear the turbos whine when taking off from a stop with the window's down. Did the fake noise bother you at all ...it's pretty docile.

Did it enhance the radio sound at all ? Curious if it's actually better for the sound/speakers being off as well ?!

I never noticed any difference in actual music playback quality. What's nice is not hearing fake engine while listening to music at modest levels. That alone was worth it. I'm fine if it's real engine noise or the turbos spooling up for real although NVH is actually pretty darn quiet IMO.

No didn't bother me,felt like one of those fake convertibles "looks cool" but not functional.
If you pop out your air filters there is a plastic mesh, pop that out drop your air filter back in,then you'll hear your turbos better.
But if you install CAI it really releases the true sound of them even with the window's closed.

Yes. You could also get an OBD dongle and use the the Carista app to turn it off yourself and see if you want it back . Search "Carista" in this forum for info.

You do know it’s not fake, right? Toyota says there’s a transducer (basically a microphone) in the intake manifold that feeds the sound to the JBL system.

Have them do this as well on top of the dumb fake engine noise

    - turn off every seatbelt chime ( back seats especially )
    - lane change from 3 to 5 flashes
    - adjust ambient temperature to -2 celcius ( this is huge for the air conditioning )
    - Open windows and sunroof with long press on key FOB
    - Ensure Active Noise Cancellation ( ANC ) is on

If they wont, buy a Carista and do it yourself or look for a forum member near you with one

I have an SR5 and I've never heard the "fake" engine noise. I suppose that's an feature of higher level trims? In fact I rarely hear the engine at all but I'm still breaking in my 2024 so I still have not put it at full throttle yet. I have put it at half throttle and I do hear a muted growl from the engine, is that what folks are talking about??

Supposedly included in the JBL option. My 2023 SR5 didn’t have it either.

Definitely turn it off. I felt like I was disconnected from what the engine was actually doing. Kind of like when you play a race car video game. Now throttle inputs match what you hear and feel from the engine. Carista is the way to go.

Is this a fairly common request that the dealer will know what I am talking about if requested?

If done, which button on the FOB is used?

You push and hold the unlock button until the windows are either all the way down or down far enough where you want them. When you release the unlock button it will stop rolling down. A dealer should know but will probably charge you an hour labor. I turned mine on with the $35 carista dongle, which will also do the fake engine noise and seatbelts along with other options.

You are probably further ahead to buy a Carista seeing as you live in the US...around $40. Simple to use, you get 1 month free with the purchase, make all the changes in the first month while its free. If you ever want to change anything after that month is up, then its $10 for a month. Cheap cheap and simple simple
