I'm not that into eclipses; so what happens if you're outside of the yellow X??? Do you not see it at all or just don't see it as well??

I'm in the annular wheel house but no where near the total one...

Total eclipse is when the moon is closer to to us, so it blocks out the whole sun. Annular eclipse is when the moon is further away from us, so it doesn't block the whole sun. You can see a ring of light around the edge of the moon.
If you're not in the center of that path, you'll probably see the moon pass through part of the sun. The further from the path, the more the viewing angle changes and the less of the sun gets blocked.
Basically like if someone holds a tennis ball in front of a light bulb and you move to the side.
If you're in Idaho, you'll see the sun the whole day. If you're in Buffalo New York, it will pass in front it for a few minutes.
I dunno if that's right. I just made all that up.

We have the same snakes here. Garter snakes and black water snakes. I've only seen the black snakes at the new house, near the creek, but always on land. I lifted up an old board a few years ago and there was one of each hanging out under it. I snapped a pic but I can't find it.
The few I've seen are only a little bigger than the garter snakes. Haven't seen one as big/fat as the one in your pic.
