Has anyone had their Tundra tuned?

I have someone on Instagram I follow that has done many Tacoma’s and gotten good reviews. I asked them if he did Tundra’s and he said not yet but they were looking into it.

    On average he charges $400.

I’ve got a 12” lift with 38’s with aftermarket CAI and exhaust. Wondering if a tune would help at all? Seems like I have good power, but could always use more.

Any advice or experience is appreciated!

It would help if you tune for 91 octane. Mine has vf tuner or ovtuned. The biggest advantage for me is the Gear Lock and Direct Shift feature. You can really squeeze out the torque that is usable on 6th and 5th gear before you downshift. But my truck has stock wheels and stock size AT tires. Re-gearing will help your truck a lot. IMO. Supercharging is another one with a hefty price.

A supercharger is definitely out of my price range. I can’t justify twin turbo’ing my Z, so I surely can’t supercharge the Tundra.

I feel like having someone more local tune it gives me some sense of comfort. It probably doesn’t matter.

I’ve been wondering if the previous owner who lifted the truck had it regeared or even tuned. For running such large tires, it seems like it has good power.

Yep tuned and loved the vastly improved shift points. My stock Tundra would hold its shifts too long before going into the next gear resulting in jerky shifts. Also removed the governor and is undetectable.

If it gave me another 20 HP (advertised) I couldn't really tell.

Your best bet with a tall lift and huge tires is a gear swap.

    Thank you sir.

Yeah I wasn't very active here for awhile after initially creating our thread last summer due to a combination of lack of engagement (no one's fault, just how the dice roll sometimes) and being really wrapped up in the development of our supercharger tune for the 3GTacoma. Those trucks are redheaded stepchildren requiring special attention to get them to run right. Took up a ton of my time. Lol...

Are you on stock gears? No way there’s decent power if so. I would look into gears first

Jack up rear of truck and count wheel revolutions vs driveshaft revolutions. Gear ratio mystery solved and is easier to do than one would think.

The lift and most of that work was done by previous owner. So it’s possible the gears have already been done.

I’ve been wanting to try and jack up the rear and do that. Just not sure how.

I did not meet the minimum post requirements yet (50+ posts), so the thread was removed. Fair is fair, no complaints there.

The mod was kind enough to copy/paste me my OP to reuse when I recreate the thread.

They're enforcing the rules on tuners a lot more strictly across the various forums following the immaturity and ridiculousness observed over on TacomaWorld. They've got their hands full over there with some of the tuners/groups.
