Can someone confirm the correct transmission fluid temperature for checking the level.

    and

What would happen if you didnt bother ckecking exact temp and checked it at hot running temp instead?.

The reason I ask, I found a trans shop that I may use to do a fluid exchange and when I ask if they check the level the proper way, he said they will dirve it around the block, get it to temp, then the level , I mentioned that I read that the fluid has to be between 2 temps to check it properly

Off the top of my head - 101-113F or thereabouts.

You need to pin the thermostat open to get the proper flow/level. It comes off the passenger side. Press in the button and shove and Allen wrench or drill bit through the holes the hold the button in.

I'm in the midst of chasing a level issue. I can confirm it is 99-111 for at least 19-21 model years. I think those temps go back to 14, but I may be wrong for the factory COOLer kids.

From the Toyota Techinfo Portal its 99F - 111F. Please, please use the temperature to set your level. Fluid expansion is massive when your talking about areas like a transmission with the multitude of tubes and channels. Trust me if you just download something like OBD Fusion if you have an Iphone or there are similar apps for android it makes it very simple. This is one of those jobs that if you read the instructions it seems daunting but when you do it you will realize its pretty basic.

thanks for the replies. I like that OBD fusion idea , it looks like you just need that app and need to purchase the bluetooth OBD thing for like $32

you can look at the VIN sticker inside the driver doorjamb. If it says "AB60F" transmission, I'm fairly sure the temp range is 99-111F for checking the fluid in that one.

How level does the truck need to be to do the fluid check? I thought I found it once before on here but can’t find it again.

is it the frame / cross member or the trans pan you need to check.

my driveway is fairly flat, never put a level on it though. And I may need to put the truck on jack stands to get my big ass under there.

Stock, with a few cosmetic mods.
I thought I read around here 1-2*. Tough to do imho, then there is left to right level as well I suppose?

Within a couple degrees is fine. Level the pan, I believe there are spots on there to check your degrees
