Hey guys long time no see!
Long story short, my center support bearing went bad, just replaced it last year. I am in a community surrounded by alot of diesel guys who do custom work on their trucks. They are pushing me towards swapping to a single, less failure points, better efficiency since there is less drivetrain power loss, etc. Has anyone done this yet? Is it economically viable? The toyota replacement is $281 work will probably be $100 with my mechanic. I am being told a steel shaft is $300 aluminum is upwards of that.

If you wheel, then you’ll lose what shitty break over angle you have left as the single shaft will hang down lower than the 2 piece. If that is not a concern to you then go for it.

You’ll likely need to adjust the angle of your rear diff.

One piece driveshafts are not capable of as many RPM. With the 4.30 gears that the Tundras run you may have problems getting a single piece shaft to run well without vibrations etc. Let alone the failure of the driveshaft at too many rpm.
At the 108 governed top speed on the Tundra with 32" tires the driveshaft is approaching 5,000 rpm.
Keep in mind that very few of the guys running diesels are running a 4.30 gear.

Here are a couple of resources:
    Driveshaft critical RPM: https://pstds.com/critical-speed-chart, https://spicerparts.com/calculators/critical-speed-rpm-calculator
    A fairly simple explanation: https://www.streetmusclemag.com/tech-stories/critical-speed/
