Its probably only going to get worse before it gets better. The new Ram seems to be pulling in a good amount of sales, if someone was new to the truck market and had no brand loyalty it would be a tough choice to pick the Tundra over the competition. Toyota has fallen asleep at the wheel on there trucks, I'm curious to see how the new Ranger impacts Tacoma sales.

I was new to the market. I drove all trucks and went with the Tundra. Even with all the features of the ram, Silverado and f150 I couldn't touch the $48 OTD I got my Tundra for. Price point still matters especially given this year's interest rates.

Agreed, price will drive some. That's why I'm in a Tundra as well, I owned all Chevy trucks before but no one could touch the Tundra price.

You would think Nissan could move more Titans, they are priced really cheap for a 1500 trucks, Lots of cash on the hood of those trucks.

I expect the new Ranger to start out well but Toyota has owned the mid-sized truck sales with the Taco. I had a 2001 Ranger with the 4L Cologne V-6. Very nice motor. Not too impressed with the new Ranger...and no aftermarket goodies for awhile. If sales taper off...???

Remember...the Tundra is USA made. GM is closing 4 plants... "laying off" 14K. Focusing on electric cars. All trucks built south of the border for $3 per hour labor vs $30 here...Huge profit margins. That's why GM offers huge mark downs and still makes a killing after "we" bailed GM out. Thanks for nothing...

This is the type of market signal that will drive Toyota to redesign the truck. Up until now, the market was telling Toyota that tundra needed a significant upgrade: 100k (or more) sales, every year, like clockwork. Now that the 100k demand number is falling, redesign is warranted. Hence the recent sightings of the Tundra test mule in Detroit.

Real estate has slowed down in CA dramatically from last year. Maybe large purchases are just decreased overall? Interest rates have been going up. Inflation with truck prices have been through the roof for the last 5 years.

50K for a truck is insane. In 2010 these things were 15k cheaper

    Not nearly enough room here!
GM will be right there in their showrooms with vehicles wrapped-up in Ole' Glory but built by foreigners in foreign countries. If they can keep their buyers ignorant enough, I guess more power to 'em.

New to Toyota. Would think the Camry and the Highlander are their bell cows for sales. Tundra is outdated. So what. It runs great. But just having my 15’ for a month. Wish I would have done this sooner. Runs like a truck shouid. No cylinder deactivation doing silly stuff. Love my tundra more everyday. Market is down overall. So there’s that. Hope they don’t screw up with new redesign. Keep it simple.

Every other truck has a lot of things to offer that tundra lacks, but most of us would still choose our truck over the competitors

Depends on the state. They can't build houses and apts fast enough here in Colorado for example.

Toyota also builds in Mexico, not the Tundra but Tacoma's are built there.

Toyota owned it when there wasn't that much product in the segment or product that was competitive. Things are changing, it will be interesting for sure.

Agreed, its not a very good looking truck. It will be interesting to see if Ram can take over the #2 spot.

    Agreed!

Very true, I like the simplicity of my truck as I use it for work and towing. But there is still improvements that could be made to help out the truck and still keep the same basic formula.

The Tacoma killed off the last Ranger and Frontier sales were always crap. If it wasn't for Bay Watch Frontier sales would have tanked earlier. Ranger sales were pretty darn good until 2nd gen Taco showed up. GM's Colorado sales started out modestly but Taco sales were double the first year. Times are changing. All indications is that Toyota will step up like they did in 07.

Hopefully they will, problem is they are still riding on a platform that came into play in 2005 before the Ranger left the market in 2011 I think it was. The other trucks now all offer better payload and towing capabilities. Toyo needs to address that aspect of the Taco and the seating position. I don't have an issue with it in my Tacoma but almost every review I read it gets hit for seating position so it must be bothersome to some.

I'm curious what approach Toyo will take with the next gen Tundra, will they keep it simple or change things drastically.

I’m totally with you. I just came out of a GMC. Lots of little issues along the way and all those bells and Whistels are just that. I wouldn’t own a Ford or Dodge. Toyota will make the changes that are needed and still make a reliable truck with great resale. Cylinder deactivation and turbo charging a V6 to make V 8 power is not a good thing. The new GMs are still using oil. Ford is still having motor related issues.

The interesting thing about the Ranger is production only stopped in the US. They still had them in South America, and I saw a few of the "new" model in Peru last Summer. I saw way more Toyotas though.

Who really cares? Let the Ford guys buy Fords.

Not a big surprise for sure. With average financing of 6.19% now, people are holding on with their current vehicle. On a 45000.00 truck, the difference between .9% and 6.19% is 107.00 a month, with nothing down. (767.00 vs 874.00)

With the new tax laws, people have been holding back as well. You can see this in the housing market as well.
