Well boys, I traded in my Tundra. I just wanted to pass on some information as it might help. If not for the crazy times and short inventories, I probably would still be driving it. I loved my Tundra.

Mine is 2019 Tundra Platinum. Drove it for 24 months, put 51,791 miles on it. I traded it in at 8:00pm central time this past Wednesday. Dealer gave me $41,500 for it. The dealer I bought my Chevy from said they are selling it to another local Toyota dealer and wanted to know if they had a problem if no owner could talk to me about the truck, said no problem. Got a call from the new owner the next morning. Small talk and told him about all the maintenance I did and it did need to have fuel tank and wiring recall done, which dealer was doing for him. He was going to go pick it up at 11:00am. He paid $44k for it. Took about 12 hours to sell my truck.

I looked at the original paperwork this morning. I paid 47,800 for it, then got a $1,500 rebate so I was $46,300. Drove the truck for 2 years and $4,800.

My trade-in value has increased about $6k from last time I looked about 6 months ago. Crazy times in the auto world right now!

I choose to capitalize on the times, and still got a pretty good amount off of new vehicle.

yes its a good time to sell your used truck/car but remember also might be harder to find the new one you want for the price you want.

    Congrats on your new truck.

I'm curious to see what VROOM and Carvana would have offered you. You can run a free quote through them with no obligation.

It wouldn't have changed much since your deal was structured with a trade in.

You are right about that. I can tell you that the 2500hd market is similar to Tundra but not quite as bad. To get the 2500hd LT truck I wanted I had to drive 3.5 hours and only 2 within 500 miles. Every time I started to look at one, they were sold. They are going in about 2 to 3 days. GM was shut down for 2 months a few months ago so they are behind like Toyota. All of their 2021's are just now shipping so they are between model years and have thin inventory also.

I would highly highly advise people to try and utilize the Costco Auto Program. I built my truck and they found this truck for me and put me in touch with the dealer I bought from. Highly recommend them!

I got cash offers from them and they were very low!

    Carvana was $33,886
    Vroom was $34,200
    KBB Cash Price was $36,800
    Local Toyota Dealer $39,500

This was cash price, wire in your bank account today.

Yeah Carvana is low, they wanted to give me 4K for my 04 Tacoma w/190k. KBB was 8k and I sold it for 9.5k. The nice thing about Carvana though is they’ll do literally all the work for you, even picking up I believe.

That's crazy. Great time to sell a vehicle and pretty terrible time to buy. I can't wait for things to crash and stabilize so I can finally buy.

    Interesting. Thanks for sharing this.

PreCOVID they've beat every dealer trade in offer on excellent condition vehicles. The offers were usually within $2K to $3K of a private sale.

Yeah I know, that is what I had heard. Not sure they have caught up or realize what the Tundra/Toyota market is really doing.

That's awesome. On the same token I was looking for a used rig and everything I looked at on Auto Trader was gone in a few days, white, 4x4, SR5, Dbl cab, 2014 and above. I can understand how you got the excellent deal.

I was in at a Toyota Dealership here in SD, they had one Tundra on the lot, the dealer tried to explain they turn around quick and have limited inventory, unclear if it's a sales gimmick. It is true, you won't see many Tundras on lots, new or used. Guy minutes before us was walking/driving out a Cement TRD PRO. Read some articles Toyota is transitioning to Twin Turbo V6, and phasing out V8's in the US due to emissions.

Anyone looking for a Tundra Fred Haas Toyota World on North side of Houston probably has 50. Mostly 2021. I sold my 2017F250 6.7 diesel to Texas Auto for $59500, transaction took 10 minutes. I paid $62500 drive out in 2018. So sales price was $58300. I didn't have trade-in. I don't care what anyone says CASH IS KING. I will finance for 1 month to get an extra discount, make no mistake when they realize you have cash and no trade to mess with and will walk at any moment they deal. My $51900 Tundra I drove out for $48K. So sales price of Tundra was $44300. It is a 2021. When they don't say "thank you" you know you got a good deal.

Exactly why I bought new Tundra. I paid $300 more for a 2021 Tundra Limited but 4x4 with 2 miles then guy that bought yours. what a dummy. Brand new warranty.

Interesting....with CVD-19, I have been considering getting rid of my 2015 DC with 69k since it has been sitting in the driveway since the February. The dealer wouldn't give me what I thought was fair deal after seeing the values online so I have just kept it. When I looked at a new truck, the same dealer was not budging a bit. In fact, I was offered the truck at MSRP minus the rebates. I said thanks and walked. They waved back with a smile. I guess a new truck was not in the cards. I may take a look at the sites you listed to see if anything has changed.

    Congratulation!

I aveee it is hard to get 11% off MSRP right now that some do during normal times. What I would do is look at the Costco Auto Program if you are a member or know somebody who is. They might be able to get you some off MSRP. I would try another dealer. I worked with 4 different Chevy dealers and the trade in values had a range of about $6k.

I looked at the new truck in May. I have the executive membership with Costco and would probably consider it, but they have a contract with this same dealer...I wonder what price difference I would get through them with Costco. At this point, I am really considering selling my 2015 just to get some relief from the monthly stroke and insurance until next year. BUT, not in a hurry. Thanks.

Well..... It seems to depend. I would for sure go and build the truck you want and see what they come back with. I do not think it hurts to try. I believe they can work with many dealers also and not just tied into one.

I got my 2020 for 13.5% below msrp with the factory rebate included. Had to shop around different dealers as most were around 9% at best. I also tried the Costco program but it was the same as most internet prices.
