looking at a 2007 tundra for sale on Facebook and wondering if you all think it is worth it. It is a 2007 crewmax limited with 190k miles. After speaking with him, he said he brought it into Toyota to read the codes and then called another dealer to see if they could fix it and they said the only way to fix it is with a new transmission. I’ve seen people fix it by just filling the fluid and doing new solenoids. Wondering if it’s fixable or if it will need to be replaced. Price is 9k. I will attach his description below-
    **TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS**

Truck is in good condition. No major body rust, interior looks brand new. Rims are icon rebound in black 18”. New tires on it Yokohama geolander A/T 35x12.5 Sun roof, leather seats, dash cam.

I recently went through this. It's kinda hard to say because the problem could be as simple as a fluid change but as difficult as a valvebody swap or even worse.

Have you driven it? What are the issues if any while driving?

I have no driven it yet. Planning on taking a look on Thursday. He says it drives and shifts through all the gears but takes off slow out of first and slips sometimes at highway speeds between 4th and 5th.

I'd say do some negotiating on price if you really want it and have the means to fix or get it fixed. Definitely try to drive it cold.

Has the current owner done anything?

He has not done anything to fix it. He is firm at 9k to fill out his loan.

Just looked at the CARFAX and the transmission fluid has never been changed. He says it is good most of the time but will occasionally slip in the upper gears.

Just depends how south it could go with the transmission and what work you're will to do/pay for. With out seeing the truck I'd say 9k is high for how bad the problem could be. Changing the fluid (black) in mine twice fixed my issues even though I still have the permanent p2714 code it's a 50/50 chance lol.

First thing you'd want to do is see what the fluid looks like. If it's still red then most likely the original owner has already done spill and fill or a flush already.

Sounds like he knows it needs a new trans and wants to get out of what he still owes on it. If it were me, I’d walk away unless you have to money to replace the trans and the truck isn’t overvalued after replacing it. I honestly don’t like to buy someone else’s project vehicles since you have no idea how it’s been driven..JMO
