    Hi,

My vehicle is dead in the shop right now after getting towed . Battery was completely dead, when I was there they found a recall and when attempting to fix it the wires had melted. Parts are not in and I'm awaiting. Question. My old timer neighbor thinks it's related to the battery saying too much energy was being drawn and killed the battery. He is also concerned alternator will have an issue. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Dealer says out of over 900 trucks with repaired recalls mine was the only one with the melting. Thank God it didn't catch fire. I use this truck for my horse trailer.

The recall had to do with part of the headlight harness in regards to the "auto highbeam" function. From my understanding it was only at risk if you used this feature.

I don't remember ever using it, but the wiring is melted . Just coincidence it has a dead battery ?

2.5 to 3 years is about the max battery life. You should have received recall notices for the headlight harness recall. Are you the original owner?

Yes. And today the dealer mentioned it. I always take it to the same Toyota dealership and this was the first I heard of it. Curious why it wasn't mentioned at last service.

If you never received a notice, put your VIN in the site and see if it comes up. If it does, I would contact Toyota and ask why you didn't receive them.

Don't use your highbeams for crazy long runs. Choose to plan to replace your headlights with the OEM LED lights and avoid the recall. Last thing I will ever allow is some Toyota oil change hack cutting and splicing wires on my truck with some Harbor Freight splice kit that they used a 20% coupon on. Toyota mechanics are part changers. They can't diagnose a wet seat with the window open but at least you'll get a new seat.

I appreciate the input but my question has yet to be answered. Has anyone experienced any other issues along with the headlights? Not just repairing the recall , actually had an issue?
