Tundra cat

I have a 2001 tundra with a rusted out cat. I've been told by 2 shops that it's going to cost me $6000 to replace because it's California emissions (even tho I live in NY ) and there's nothing else to replace it with but a Toyota part. Is there anything I could rig up myself or have made that will still pass inspection?

Pull your parts here in CO aren't allowed to resell Cats. They have to remove them and recycle. Not sure about New York. I'd recommend buying some Cats from Roman. Might find some used ones on Craigslist tho...

Walker lists CARB compliant converters for 2001. Try using their catalog to look it up. It'll still be close to $1000 just for parts but that's a lot better than 6K.
