I’ve got a 17 trd off road double cab with a Bakflip g2 folding tonneau cover.

In order to mount the tonneau cover they had to drop down the deck rails with brackets for clearance. When I go to secure a load with a ratchet strap it bends the brackets in because of the leverage.

I called Bakflip and she said to try out stronger brackets from the hardware store. She made it seem like it was no big deal that the brackets get tweaked in. Anyone have experience with this? Is there a deck rail that I can mount using the two stake pockets on each side of the bed, like a contractor rack would mount? Thanks!

I have a Mx4 on my truck which also has the bed rail system. I think I paid like 49.00 extra to get the relocation brackets but after looking at them I never put them because they look flimsy, being made out 1/8" aluminum. I should just have returned them since, based on your experience they are junk.

Let us know if you find a better solution because I would like to reinstall the rails. I thought about drilling new holes and use the rivet type nut inserts like Toyota did in the original location and I may do that yet.

But that will not work with the cover closed.

I reinstalled the rails under my Bakflip Mx4 and agree, the relocation brackets are flimsy and bend under load. Total junk. For this reason and others I really dislike my Bakflip Mx4. Bak’s cavalier attitude about making your own rails is unacceptable and has them admitting their design is flawed.

I do like the Mx4, it is the second one I bought. I agree that the sales person's attitude sucks.

I too noticed the cheap shit brackets when i installed my g2. I use the hooks on the sides of the bed more than the rail system so it doesn't really bother me.

Besides being cheap I think they look really stupid and out of place, if I would opt to install them I would paint them with black wrinkle finish paint. At any rate near 50.00 is a rip off for what you get.

Never understood their rationale to force you to alter the design just so you can use their product. It definitely makes the rails an afterthought and flimsy. I don't have the Bakflip. My truck was used when purchased and already had the Rugged Cover 2 which does not require any alteration to the rails. Wouldn't have purchase one that did.

That is a pretty good work around. I have to see if I can do that with mine. I wouldn't think that there is a big difference in the mounting rails between the two brands. Thank for sharing!

I have a 14 TRD Offroad CM. I just did the superstrut rails on mine & found a way to use the rail to hold the track on. It's solid & my Bakflip G2 works as good as it ever did. I'll attach a pic later when I get home. I reused the front of the aluminum clamps that were holding the Bakflip rails on. I removed everything, installed the superstrut with strategically placed nylon cone nuts inserted in the superstrut chanel, placed the Bakflip rail back on the bed side & then bolted the face of the original clamp to the nylon cone nut, which will hold the rail firmly to the superstrut. Whew, man a picture would have been much easier.

There is a fender washer between the nylon cone nut & the face of the clamp.

So, I am a little confused here. Did you use different rails (you mention super strut rails) or did you use the Toyota bed rails? Also, where did you get those nylon nuts?

I painted mine with a hammered dark silver metallic paint. Looks decent but obviously didn’t cure the problem of them being flimsy!
