I posted this in another thread -

One great thing about the TSS though is it's effect on your insurance rate!
I replaced a very tired 240k 2003 GMC Yukon with basic liability insurance only with a new SR5 with full coverage and a lower deductible. My insurance premium only increased by $40 per year! Couldn't believe it!

Has anyone else had this experience? Or am I an oddball?

While the TSS should help your rates, the recent poor crash test ratings probably hurt us and negate and savings that might have incurred. I'm not 100% sure that's how it works though.

Bit of a stretch to make that claim or assumption. You replaced a 16 year old vehicle with a brand new one of a completely different make and model. There's a lot that goes into inilsurance algorithms to determine premiums.

I was shocked my new '18 was cheaper than the wife's '14 Venza. I figured it was all the nanny stuff that's complained about.

Yup, I just assumed a new $35k Tundra should cost considerably more than a $3k vehicle - without collision.

It's all about safety. I had my wife driving an 01 Lincoln town car as a lesson . Long story . But her new Camry is only 2 dollars more a month. Then that car.

Generally auto insurance rates vary widely depending on the state you live in. NC has some of the highest rates in the nation. Newer car or truck you also pay a higher personal property tax.

Its not about safety or TSS. Its about a LOT of stuff.

One of my neighbors is an Actuary for an insurance under writer. One night after some beers I tried to get him to explain how they come up with risks etc. After an hour of making him try to talk to me like a 3 year old I gave up. The math used is for smarter people than me, but the source data points are numerous. You can't point to 1, 2 or 3 things and come up with why your premiums are high or low compared to something else.

If you did have collision on your old vehicle it'd probably be dit cheap though. I don't think having TSS is a big factor here.

Again, lots of things go into the insurance premium. Even just requesting a quote if you haven't done so in a while can already can make a big difference.

My rate for the 19 tundra vs the 16 tundra is less. Dropped by $120 every 6 months, state farm.
