I have a 2013 with a 6.5’ bed. Does anyone know the weight of one of these beds? I’m trying to come up with a plan to pull the bed off. I plan to temporarily remove the tailgate to lighten the load.

I’m seeing posts saying anywhere from 250-500 lbs. As for now, I will plan assuming 300 lbs with tailgate removed. If anyone could comment on this, that’d be great.

I have 2 ideas for lifting the bed.

    1. Lift it with 3-4 people and carry to custom frame built with 2x4s. If anyone’s done this, what vertical lift distance is needed to clear the wheels? Would 3 people be able to lift the bed without losing control due to tilting?

    2. Use a 1/4 ton chain hoist and 2-4 nylon straps w/ 1000 lb minimum capacity rating. I will be limited to garage rafters, custom built wood structure, or tree for hoist mounting. Does anyone have any tips for supporting structure for hoist?

    lots of dents
I’ve never lifted a 2013 short bed tundra bed off a frame, but i have lifted plenty of other beds off of frames. 4 guys can easily lift a full size 8’ bed. 3 guys can easily lift a 6.5’ bed. The fourth guy can position the rickety sawhorses where they need to be located underneath the bed. No need to get crafty building a 2x4 whatever support. Head to homo depo and buy a pair of inexpensive sawhorses and call it a day.

You will want 4 to move the bed. Just removed and installed mine with 3 and it’s not easy work. Get an extra pair of hands

Recently had my 2012 6.5' bed off. Used a 1 ton engine hoist and 2 ratchet straps criss crossed hooked to the tie down loops. Then lowered onto saw horses. 2 in the front and 2 in the back.
I don't know the weight but it's not more than 300lbs. I was able to easily hold up one end of the bed myself while my gf repositioned saw horses as needed.

2 of us lifted my 8’ bed off my 2007 RCLB. Helps to be taller than my 5’ 5”. I’m not very tall but I can lift heavy things.

Its heavy. Just pulled mine off this summer. Me and a friend got the loaner bed in the garage ourselves but it was a struggle. Without the tailgate on it gets front heavy. I bought a engine hoist and bed lift attachment. All in I was just under 400 bucks for the two ordered off ebay. Did it myself in about an hour removal and reinstall of new bed. Without those tools would have had to have atleast 4/6 people to get the job done. Thats alot of beer to buy…..

    Seriously, its heavy hahaha.

I like the last few videos you put out. Got me really thinking about boxing the frame up. Is the front box brace gonna be a kit from your fabricator eventually?
