Trip to the beach, new truck paranoia

Headed down to the Outer Banks soon for a week. I'm really more of a mountains guy than a beach guy, but going for an event.

Traded my Tacoma in for my current Tundra end of July, so it's still pretty new. Normally I'd take the truck on a trip, but I'm a little hesitant to take the Tundra. Last time I was down there it was on the tail end of a hurricane; flooded roads and sand blowing at high speeds. Tore me up to drive the Tacoma around in that. This time I know there shouldn't be any of that, but paranoia is getting the best of me. The salt doesn't bother me that much as I live in a place that gets snow so the winter roads here are likely much worse than what I'll have down there. But going to a sandy environment will still eat at me a little.

Anyone else ever feel this way or am I being overly paranoid? Be brutal. ;)

Leave it at home and rent a F150, Ram, or Silverado. :mudding:

It’s not a classic car. Drive your truck to the outerbanks.

Last year I drove down to OBX, was up in Corolla and just about to drive on the beach with my 2 month old Subaru Legacy, I changed my mind just as I was about to enter the beach. I went down the road and rented a Jeep Wrangler and took that on the beach.

Last time I ended up driving the Tacoma on the beach. Kind of fun, but I definitely won't be driving the Tundra on the beach. I want to keep this truck a long time.

Drive it! Have taken mine twice to the OBX. I just make sure I completely rinse every inch of the truck when I get back home.

I gave it a good wash and pressure washed underneath the truck. Foam cannon should help too so you’re not swirlin the sand all over your paint. Tundra handled the OBX well

All those scratches and smears add character so when you look at the truck 10 years from now, you remember all the fun trips you took in it.

You may want to check on flooding and cleanup before you make your trip dirty mess in the Carolina’s.

Paranoid is my vote. I'm on the beach 10-15 times a year, with two of those being 7 day trips. Was more when I was younger. Kept my last two vehicles 12 years and 15 years. 5 years now on the Tundra and no problem. Rinse underneath when you get home.

Dude, you do realize that hurricane Florence just came thru like 2 weeks ago right? Theres still areas all over southeast nc that are still flooded. I would ask around before heading that way. I live in Wilmington and i can assure you nobody is coming here for vacation for a while. The beach is a mess. Debris everywhere, terrible erosion, many piers got destroyed. They just recently opened up carolina beach and topsail island to people that live there. New Bern is also still a mess. Not trying to ruin your fun, but i'd be hesitant.

Whenever I find new tundras in parking lots even parked like this- I park similarly next to them to expand our protective bubble assured that the other owners will appreciate this we will all drive away without dings... at the gym we usually get 3-4 tundras in a row and I only know one of the others lol

Dude, you will be fine. We were spared. If you planning on driving on the beach quite a bit, like @JMB said rinse it off. Me and John both have undercoating, which was a must for me when I bought it. Giddy up

Drive it! I have taken numerous Tacoma’s down there. Two of them were less than a month old. I can’t wait to take my Tundra to Corolla next year.

Lol, you are in the same situation I was. Bought my truck at the end of July, and 1500 miles into it, the wife and I drove 16 hours each way to Tybee Island, GA. I did change the oil before we left and checked the oil a couple times along the way, but otherwise I just drove it. Got into some wicked rain and Atlanta traffic was a headache but otherwise no issues.

My recommendation? Drive it. You’ll be very comfortable with your new truck after a long road trip in it.

I understand your paranoia completely! Hauled the boat to the lake an hour away for the first time with my new "800 mile" Tundra ( on the freeway). Got back and had a darn stone chip in the paint, not a small one either. Oh well, just got some touch-up paint and fixed it. It is a truck after all.
Mine won't be seeing the Ohio winter though. Got a Ford F-150 to drive for that, while the Tundra sleeps for the long winter!

Thanks guys. It's not the paint I worry about so much as the sand getting into things and causing premature wear. But, I brought it down anyway.

In the plus side, in 9 hours of driving, the hand calc was 20.1 mpg. :)
