TRD Pro Timing

New guy here seeking input. Currently drive a 2020 tacoma trd off road. Truck is fine, but I'm interested in a full size truck. Not in a situation where I have to purchase now - tacoma is doing fine. I am seeking input on whether or not anyone has experienced any price wiggle on new Tundra Pros? Pre-covid my local dealer would deal on everything BUT the Pros (tacoma). Also, I realize the hybrid engine is not included on the current TT v6 recall, but refinement will come as months pass. Would anyone be leery of purchasing now (mid to late 24 my) vs waiting until 2025 model year? The tacoma has mechanically been spot on, so I hate to trade into mechanical problems. OTOH one could wait until the end of time, waiting for proof of reliability. Thanks in advance.

I'd have no problem getting a Pro now but you might as well get a 25 at this point. For reference, my truck was an Aug 2023 build and haven't had a single issue yet ...still sub 10k miles as of today.

ps: anyone else think that new mudbath color looks the same as quicksand ?

 

Owner of a 2024 Pro - 2025s should be hitting lots soon if not already there so not sure you’ll have much of a choice. I really like my 24 but know my brother has the exact same truck and has had a lot of weird QC issues (non-engine related). I’d also consider any kind of financing deals you can get from Toyota and the fact that the MSRP goes up every year.

 

Tacoma is a great truck. I'm growing and the truck is not.

Not sure what drives the Pro color choice. Maybe the lime green guy got fired? Quicksand was 2016 - time flies. I think the mud bath will sell. The Solar and Terra seem pretty close together for a back to back release - would've thought they would space that out by several years. similar to when they did 2 blues back to back.

 

Two 2024 Pros at a nearby dealer. MGM and Terra. Not sure of the build dates. Interesting about your brother's truck. Strange how that works.

 

For clarification purposes, the gas motor in the hybrid is the same motor that is in the non hybrid. The ONLY reason hybrids were not included in the recall was because if the motor failed and shut off, you could safely navigate off the road using the electric motor. In the non hybrid, once the motor goes, you have no control over the electronic steering. Hence the safety recall of non hybrids.

 

I’d take the MGM if they’d be willing to go under MSRP, otherwise maybe hold out for a 25.

 

In the Tundra line I’ve owned a 2015 Silver, 22 MGM (non hybrid) and now a 24 Terra Pro.

I stayed away from dark trucks for a long time and detested the murdered out look…but due to unavailability of the specific bronze Black Rhino wheels I wanted back in 22 I settled for a dark gunmetal gray to match the truck (which I liked very much).

Fast forward to the Terra (which isn’t anywhere as loud as the Solar Octane btw). I love this color in person…and I do love some of the contrast it gives with the black accents…same goes for white Pro’s which would have been my other option.

So for me the MGM and any black (at this stage in my life and choices available) would stay on the lot in favor of a lighter color that gives contrast with trim pieces for a “balanced” look.

…and again no disrespect for anyone with a Solar Octane but that’s just not my thing/color…a little too loud (and saying this with full knowledge that some folks think Terra is Terrible and looks like throw-up).

To each his own with the color choices…but take an in person look if you can get one.
