Hello, I’ve been entertaining the idea of buying a TRD Pro skid plate for my tundra and was wondering if any one's already installed one on their second gen? Photos would be highly appreciated!

You may have to cobble some nuts/bolts and come up with some sort of spacer(s). I didn't get all the fasteners with my second-hand purchase, so I can't comment on how completed the hardware would be. Also, make sure you have a bit of plastic/rubber to place at the rear crossmember, some find that they'll creak/pop with the wheel at full lock or some undulations like driveway entrances/exits. My tow hooks had to be removed/replaced to fit the plate. Aaaaand one last thing. During oil changes, have the driver side of the vehicle at least six inches higher than the passenger, or after most of the oil is drained from the pan the weaker stream of oil will curl back on the pan and drip on the top side of the skid and you'll have to chase the mess.

Don’t want to get in the way of a TRD upgrade but just as an alternative, the RCI skidplate is a perfect fit for the gen 2. AND after many oil changes on my 07 I will vouch for the ease of the procedure. With the RCI the oil pan bolt is easily accessible, and there’s no concern about drippage. The door for the filter change could be a little bigger but it is big enough to get the job done. I also put in a Fumoto oil pan bolt and it could not be easier to keep fresh synthetic 0w-20 running in the old dog.

After years of having to completely remove the stock skidplate every time I wanted to change the oil, the RCI was a revelation. The TRD is probably great, but if it doesn’t make changing the oil any easier, maybe consider a proven alternative?

Thanks for chiming in, after hearing the last bit of advice the next thing I had googled was the RCI skid LOL. I change my own oil as well so I would hate to make things more of a process, and pay good money!! Your endorsement has convinced me that’s the route I want to take.
