Welp, looks like my TRD Pro has a nice case of the Christmas lights with 12K on the odometer

Drove a few short miles to work and felt a weird surge, followed by loss of power. Check engine light, parking brake and hybrid system malfunction- basically in limp mode. I will say that about a week ago I also got the "transmission oil temp high" warning while driving in 4-Low.

Thought I'd make a thread to catalog my experience so far, in case someone else runs into similar issues.

02/10/2023- Received "Transmission Oil Temp High" warning light while operating in 4-Low. Code cleared after stopping engine and shifting back into 2WD.
02/22/2023- Experienced a surge, followed by sudden loss of power and engine misfiring, truck placed in limp mode with multiple warning lights. Drove truck to dealer about 2 miles away.
02/22/2023- Dealer confirmed transmission warning light. Active/pending DTCs for "Cylinder #3 Misfire" and "Multiple Misfire". Dealer cleared DTC from memory, took test drive. Wants to keep vehicle for a few days to see if DTC develops again.

Can you give more detail on the off roading you were doing that cause a hi trans temp warning? Normally 4 low is supposed to prevent that with high revving and increased coolant flow.

Exact same thing just happened to me down to to the cylinder, which indicates it’s not a one off to me. And the lead up was my parking brake malfunctioning daily. Locked up in the automatic car wash on me too. They are keeping it for longer to do a disassembly to check for debris in the fuel line. I also had my trans replaced at 200miles.

Happened to me today. Same cylinder #3 plus the other warning lights. I’m two hours out of town until tomorrow, hopefully this thing makes it to the dealer for my now scheduled appointment.

Update: Dealer says there is coolant in the cylinder and they have to contact Toyota to see how they want to fix this. They haven’t had it long enough to see how much damage there is, that’s what I was told when I asked if the head was cracked. He did say there was some piston damage.

They didn’t have much in loaner stock because they were extremely busy but the dealer is taking care of me, they’ve always been great. No trucks in the loaner program were available but they will let me know if they get one back, right now I’ve got a Camry.
