Has anyone swapped the TRD Off-road shocks onto a platinum with the base (non avs) suspension? Everything I’m reading, ride quality is better and these seem to be readily available for a low cost for takeoffs.

I've been thinking about this as well, but I have the factory airbags. Will that change anything?

I have a “base” platinum if that’s a thing…as in no AVS or Advanced package or even power running boards (only bummer). On the plus, I didn’t pay for any bloat options like a safe or $600 cam.

anyways, curious if others have investigated.

Also interested. Is the O/R suspension different than the TRD lift kit? If so, how?

I did this on my 2020 Platinum and really didn’t notice much of anything. I’ve considered doing this on my truck now but I’m not sure if it is actually worth it. Another member posted a while ago who had a 1794 and then traded for a TRD 1794 and he said the truck drove the same

I have a 22 Limited with rear air suspension. I just ordered a pair of the 22-23 TRD Pro Fox shocks for the rear of my truck. Ill post how it changed the ride and handling after I get them installed

1794 here with standard non trd shocks.

Had my camper shell installed today, which added a bit of weight. Truck drives much smoother now. Before the regular non trd shocks were just terrible

So put some sandbags into your bed, it'll help to soften the ride :)

Apples to oranges IMO, I did the same thing to my 2nd gen and the ride improved very noticeably. Third gen has a much different feel when driving.

I get the impression a lot of owners are not happy with the standard shocks. I threw the question out there to understand if it’s a direct swap give. The low cost of buying takeoffs.

    Lots of stuff!
Coming from a Ridgeline that drove like a car. The TRD suspension is stiffer but not too bad. We drove an SR5 as well with standard suspension and it was quite stiff. We have "E" tires on it now and the ride is still pretty good. Ours doesn't have any air add-ons and we are packing a 70 lbs cover and 50 lbs of skid plates which probably helps a bit. Soon to add the sliders for another 50 lbs.

@PERRY1060 Did you ever make this swap? Just curious about the results if you did.

Sorry to say I have not but really want to. Spring is mulch, strip and paint the deck, plant a bunch of stuff for my bride and dewinterize the boat and get it in the water time. I promise to post when I get a caught up:goingcrazy:

I went onto ebay and saw how expensive they are. WOW! Hope you get some serious enjoyment out of them.

As far as I know they are different. Still haven't put them in but reading on the forum over several threads what I've gathered is the TRD pro's are a little softer and tuned to the TRD pro fox shocks. A lot of people towing with their pros have stated how much they sag when towing. The TRD Pro springs (rubber and coil size) do look a little physically different than the Platinum springs currently on my truck. I'm not sure if the rear TRD offroad springs are any different than any other model with the exception being the TRD Pro.

If you ask me the spring should be the same across the trim since the Trd Pro only gets a front lift. Makes more since for Toyota to tune the ride per trim with the shocks. Notice that all the different model have different shocks.

I did this on my 2018, from the Platinum suspension to the TRD Sport. Along with both TRD sway bars, I noticed the ride is stiffer. I would imagine that you should be able to bolt up the OR suspension no problems.

Oooh just noticed the second gen in your profile. Were you asking about leafsprings on a second gen? or were you asking about the coils springs on a 3ed gen?
