Do you guys think there would be any benefit to doing the TRD CAI without the top cover?
I’ve been reading the TRD CAI doesn’t add too much and reuses the bottom part. So I’m thinking would it make any difference to do just the other parts?
I have a magna flow exhaust

just add a TRD or K&N drop in filter and call it good

Your missing the whole point....whether it adds anything is immaterial.......it just looks cool with the red silicon hoses...

The top cover keeps the air that's entering your engine filtered. You'll want the top portion.

So on mine I have the hard pvc hose coming off the box. Any idea if I can get the one you have with the flex portion?

Both top boxes, stock air cleaner and the TRD have a plastic "nipple" outlet. I'll post instructions on forum or I can email direct if you wish

Sorry to bring up a dead thread, but this is where my search has lead. Can any one tell me the measurement of the intake tube between the red couplers? I'd like to see if getting just the tube and pvc hose would work.

The whole point with the TRD CAI kit is the Toyota branded K&N filter. Just replacing the tube section and PVC hose won't do anything for you, not even sure if it will work with existing couplings.

I get that the filter is the bigger issue, but the factory tube has a huge resonator on it and eliminating that would help air flow. That's why I was hoping someone could measure their TRD tube, and couplings.

your throttle body is the same size, unless it's force induction nothing going to gain much.

That "resonator" is a diffuser its designed to smooth the air flow across the MAF sensor. If your vehicle is still under its emission's warranty I would not recommend modifying existing parts. The "air intake" system is designed and approved to work with specific parts. Consequently thats why the TRD CAI is sold in a Kit form to comply with applicable emission laws.
