I was at the stop and car on the other side was letting me through, so as usual, heaven forbdi I miss that opportunity!! It was wet roads and I smashed accelerator a little bit and she started spinning a little and trac control started taking over.

What happened next is, as always, quite terrifying. Road was a little bumpy, so I kept getting and losing traction and, as car was approaching, I was slowly making my progress merging. There was a lot of slipping and lurching while rpms wee getting towards 4000rpm and all sorts of lights(trac ctrl) flashing.:burnrubber:

How bad is it generally for the transmission when this happens? Is it going to break?:spending: I am not sure how it works, never researched it. I have bald(not very, just almost worn) tires, so if I get caught off guard or it's wet, I can easily lose grip. I try to contain my excitement:yay: most of the time.:smack:

    Thanks gang.

Step 1 is to ensure you aren't confusing loss of traction with transmission slip.

find dry, level, asphalt road. drive normally from a dead stop. count the gears as you accelerate. 1,2,3 etc...then it should drop to overdrive.

If the accleration stalls and rpm climbs you are slipping in transmission.

    What you did was either:

    - a brodie
    - a burnout
    - a bake off

These are signs of high testosterone level. Go ahead and keep your man card in your wallet.

@blanchard7684 , no no transmission pulls fine.
@TundraMcGov. , yes it was sort of a burnout, but not really, since it was extinguished by rainy condition.

I must rephrase, when you lose traction and transmission starts slipping and surging so you don't spin out your truck and die in a ditch, does it break the transmission significantly? There is also clicking and ticking happening, but to hear it, you have to be on the mud and more gentle spinning. Ticking is very subtle.

    Edited grammat.

Your traction control is performed by applying brakes. Has nothing to do with the transmission, so you haven't hurt anything. That's what happens on wet or slippery surfaces. Traction control applies brake to the wheel that's spinning because of lost traction. All the grinding noises you hear are the same ones you'd hear in emergency braking when ABS works to prevent wheel lock-up. It sounds so bad because the system is applying and releasing the brakes multiple times per second.

Yeah OP test this out in a dry environment.. I suspect its a lot less problematic as you are making it out to be.. and stop driving like a maniac. and and.. maybe look at your wheel thread.. you may need to better threads.

I'm usually normal and careful. Just rare cases, wanted to make sure I'm not excessively breaking things. Thread is almost gone, very fuel efficient now.
