So today I swapped out my headlights. Bulbs were getting dim and I noticed this…upload_2024-8-1_0-8-4.jpg

my question is, if I removed this hose and put a new one on, will I have to add transmission fluid? Will it be leaking while I swap? I have a roll of fuel line, which I was planning on using.

if I need to add transmission fluid…how difficult is it? All my other vehicles have a dipstick for the transmission.

is there anything I should be concerned or worried about while doing the swap?

    thank you.

Have you done a drain and fill on your transmission fluid yet? If not, now would be a good time to knock that out too. I can't confirm if and how much fluid will come out but I'd imagine if you have all of the tools ready, you'd be able to take the old hose off and place in the new one with maybe only a small amount of fluid loss. YMMV.

There's plenty of videos posted on here and on YT on transmission drain and fills.

Jaypown is right ^^^ just knock out a spill and fill while you're at it. Pull the drain plug, fix the hose, then do the "overfill, get to check temp, pull check plug" thing to get the level right. Its cake. Just keep track of how much comes out and overfill by a half quart or so.

Also, has that hose been changed before? The worm-drive hose clamps look weird, is that factory?

I have not changed the fluid myself. I believe there are two hoses that were changed, again not by me. I am the second owner.
I’ll have to watch a few videos today on changing the fluid and pick up the fluid. I don’t have any. I always hated transmission fluid changes. At least this vehicle has a drain plug. Usually it is a spill all over the garage floor and degrease it so you don’t slip after it’s cleaned up. lol

You'll get some fluid out of that hose, but it shouldn't be a whole lot. That being said, since you'll want to top it off anyways, a spill and fill is quick and easy. For what it's worth those hose clamps are not OEM, so who knows if that hose is either.

Automakers have shifted away from dipsticks in favor of fill and check plugs. This method works well and does a better job of keeping moisture and other contaminants out of the system. It's not quite as user friendly, but reality is if you stick to a maintenance schedule there is no need to check the transmission fluid between services.
