I have a 2020 trd pro and wanted to know if you can use the jumper wire in the obd2 plug method to put the truck in trans temp check mode. I’ve seen videos on youtube showing how to do this on older model tundras but i was curious if would work on the 2020 models as well.

Used a jumper wire on my 2018, should work on all the 2.5 gens

    Hi all -
First post here, trying to wrap up a transmission pan drain and fill. Definitely found a ton of useful info, but I just noticed that my 2020 Tundra definitely doesn't have pin 13 on the OBD2 connector. I'm apparently not the only one.. the post linked below mentions the same. I'm wondering if there's an alternate way to get the truck into temp check mode to get the fluid level right (since I can't jump pin 4 to a pin 13 if it isn't there...)

If not, I think my best option may be to just start the truck and cycle through the gears (skipping the neutral/drive/neutral/drive business) while monitoring transmission pan and TC temps using ODBFusion, removing the standpipe drain once temps hit 99F.

Any flags with this idea? Alternate suggestions? (I don't have a TechStream.. just an ODB2 dongle and an Android tablet) and I was hoping to wrap this up today if possible. I've looked for a newer TSB and haven't found one, but that doesn't mean it's not out there..

Thanks in advance for any advice!
    Greg

Also: not my truck but another thread documenting what I'm seeing:

Update: found this link for a 2021 Tacoma, going to give it a try.

Confirmed the Tacoma process works on my 2020 Tundra the situation where the ODB2 connector has no pin 13.

    1. Turn off electrical systems: A/C, audio, lights, etc. and do the following to get into fluid temperature detection mode within 60 seconds after starting the engine.

      1. Depress and hold the brake pedal, then start the engine (idle)
      2. Slowly move the shift lever from P to S, then change slowly from 1st all the way back to P.
      3. Next move the shift lever to D, and quickly move back and forth between N and D (once per second-ish) for at least 12 seconds.
      4. "Fluid temperature detection mode" is active when you see the D light come on while you're in neutral (for two seconds before going out).

Once the D light has come on in neutral, you're in temp check mode

      - Put the truck in park and watch your temperatures (if you have a way to do that e.g. ODB Fusion + advanced PIDs) or wait for the D light to come on at 99F and drain away.
      - If temps exceed 111F or you see the D light start flashing and you're not done yet, shut it off, let it cool and try again.
      - If you have everything you need in place, it only takes a minute or so to do the work under the truck. When I finished the pan temp was 105F.
Hope this helps. For more details see the TSBs that are out there.. it's just the process of getting into temp check without a jumper that is different.
Basically the jumper is now unnecessary. Seems easier this way, because I can monitor using the ODB2 dongle instead of having to peak at the dash from under the truck.

Hello wolo. It seems strange that your OBD2 port has no pin 13. I make a jumper that looks like this, works on any OBD2 porrt.
