Hello everyone. I have an 06 doublecab with 216k miles on it. Not sure if the transmission fluid has ever been changed before, but the truck shifts super smooth right now. I am wondering if I should do a drain and fill on it or should I just leave it alone? I have heard some people say to change it and some say if it's original to leave it alone. I believe changing it might make it last longer in the long run, but I don't want to change it and make it not shift as good as it did before. What do y'all think I should do?

    Drain n fill.

It's the pressure flushes that can be dangerous at high mileage, if the fluid hasn't been changed before

Exactly what I did - with each oil change for 3 or 4. I used techstream to get the transmission temp and verified the level. Then, each time I drained it, I replaced the same amount.

    WS is for 2005-2006
    Type T-IV is for 03-04
ATF DexIII or higher for 00-02

Drain and fill. Or if you're worried, take it to a premium BG dealer and have them do BG's transmission treatment. BG (I believe) will fully warranty your transmission after the service.

Correct. That’s why all of our used cars get a BG kit installed during the UCI

What does a BG kit include?

Beyond the contents, BG also has a specific fluid exchange machine ("PF5" to manage their transmission service. If it's interesting, here's their training video showing the full process of adding the cleaner, fluid exchange, and adding conditioner. Their fluid is supposed to be of a higher quality than Toyota's WS fluid.

There is a lot of skepticism about BG products on various forums you're going to hit. Thing about it is, BG not only freely shares training videos online, but there are ample people who've tested their claims and effectiveness online, and I've yet to see anyone in those videos who follows the training videos and doesn't prove their claims. The Dynamic Engine Flush, getting rid of sludge, is pretty f'n incredible. But they don't sell to the public, and they apply a warranty to any component that's serviced for X# of miles when you have a BG shop do the work.

    OP,

I bought my 2006 DC automatic transmission at 201,000 miles. The Toyota dealership I took it to recommended a tranny flush and refill and that's what I went with. (Based on advice given on this site).

This was done last April and the truck has done fine, including pulling about 4,000 pounds of loaded tailer up WV hills a couple of times each month.

Mine has almost 270K on it and shifts smooth as can be. Tranny fluid color looks quite good. Have elected to leave it alone for now. Drain and fill sure seems to be the way to go if you're going to do anything.....

    Too many, but not enough....
I would definitely do a drain and fill only and see what the fluid looks and smells like. That can give you an idea when it was last changed.
