I took a pretty big hit to my front end the other day and smashed up my front stock bumper, and while removing all the stock bumper and mounting to prep for when my aftermarket bumper arrives this week/end I noticed that the bottom of my transmission oil cooler got crushed a little bit and is leaking. How crazy of a replacement is this going to be? I've got decent mechanical abilities.

If you find one that fits the hoses and mounting brackets, it will be easy. You should check the fluid after replacing to make sure you didn’t lose too much. I think since yours is stand alone it’s about $100. An aftermarket one will work better and cost just the same or less.

Edit: $140. Not sure why it comes up as a 2013. It fits 07-09s.

Awesome thank you, I'm going to check with the company that I have my warranty through to see of that is covered. I'm taking it in to replace the water pump and I have a $100 deductible, so if the cooler is also covered I might have them swap it out at the same time.
It looks like its held in at 4 or 6 mounting positions and then just two hoses connecting to those to two nipples, so it looks fairly easy, it's the priming and filling to get back to proper oil volume that I need to research a bit more

So I dont have anywhere level to park and work on my truck, and it seems like thats pretty important to get the fluid level right in the tranny. I'm assuming once I disconnect the hoses to remove the damaged cooler I'll lose more fluid. Guess this might be a job for the auto shop

scratch that, the local transmission shop wants $300 to drain and fill my transmission after I install the cooler, looks like I will be finding a buddies house that has level driveway and will do it myself. I've only had the truck a year so I'm wanting to completely drain and fil, possibly flush once or twice to make sure its got good fluid. Any rough idea on how many quarts of fluid I would need per fill/drain?

or would I be good to just replace the cooler and then top it off with out clearing out all the current fluid?

Don't quote me on this.... but I swear it's around 13.5 quarts. Hopefully someone else chimes in soon with the exact details.

I just did a complete fluid change, I used around 14qts to get the fluid to look exactly the same color as the fluid I was putting into it. I drained the pan and added 4 qts, then disconnected the cooler return line at the trans and drained 2 qts at a time until I got the color I wanted

There are just the two lines going into the cooler correct? Just trying to get an idea of how the swap with the new unit will be, looks like 4-6 mounting bolts and two hose connections? Its had a very slow leak, pretty much a slight weep of fluid so I don't think I've lost more then an ounce or two. Just trying to get an idea of how much is goin to be in the cooler when I remove it to install the new unit.

Not sure how much fluid is in the cooler. But there are only 2 lines that go to the thermostat puck on the transmission, but you probably don't need to replace the lines, just the cooler itself, unless the lines are damaged. So only 2 lines.

Yeah it's just the cooler, I hit a pole and pushed in my bumper and the bottom if the cooler took some of the Impact, it's just weeping fluid slowly l, I haven't driven any longer then 20-30min at a time since
