So you don't give it the least bit of attention, you just assume it's running within safe operating conditions? How is your opinion of any value if you refuse to verify safe operating conditions?

So here's the thing... Toyota just did that, and you still can't own reality. And seriously man, you were all over the place there. Which is it!

What? As opposed to what? Why would I be so satisfied with this release if I weren't? "Spent money"... lmao, okay bud, we get it.

2"CB shackles, bushings and 1 shim, lockerdown console vault, rear folding seat back mod, snugtop shell with opening side windows, 46g fuel tank, SDHQ sliders and hidden winch, Decked Drawers, Alcan leaf springs and got rid of the interior chrome
    So, here’s a thought.
Maybe since the new tundra has a much greater payload and increased towing capacity, perhaps they added that transmission cooler as a cautionary measure. Not that any particular problem existed or that they expect any, but Toyota might just be doing what they have always done. Engineer and build it to handle serious conditions and scale back if it’s overkill.

Obviously we need to wait and see where they set the thermostat, but I doubt it's anywhere near the temp that triggers the dash warning light now.

As a kid on family vacation we were stranded by transmission failure several times on different mountain highways (before cell phones), so I'm probably just over-compensating, terrified of ending up there again, looking for something that confirms that part of my bias.

That, and I'm a dick most of the time. A dick that errs on the side of caution.

Toyota engineers will tell you the 19-21 models have a cooler due to the puck. My question is will the new ones have a legit cooler in the front or will it just be a different version of the puck. Toyota is putting language out there that people want to hear to promote a new product

    1. It's a totally different transmission and so there can be no comparison to the current transmission.

    2. We have no idea what trans fluid the 10-speed uses and so there can be no comparison to the current trans fluid.

    3. The best approach with the current generation Tundra is if you tow heavy and often then monitor the trans temps and if they are high add a cooler. Lots of folks never tow anything and they will be fine. As a daily driver my trans temp rarely goes over 175F and if does it very rarely goes over 200F. I don't need a trans cooler but I have a glam truck.

I thought dropping trans cooler was a bad idea just from an optics POV but I certainly don't see this move of adding a trans cooler to the 10-speed as an admission of guilt - it's a totally different situation.

I'm still the Tundras.com guinea pig trying to burn mine up before the warranty expires. I even fill the trailers tanks with water to get it up to max GVWR when I tow. You know, taking one for the team.

They did say during the TFL review they improved the tailgate as many had issues with deformation. Holy shit Toyota you had generation 2.5 for 13 years before you did right for your customers...... I had transmission rebuilt and let me tell you none of them ever shifted the same or as smooth. either they didn't downshift when expected, abruptly shifted, shuttered. If you have a Tundra trans go out or any auto transmission sale and move on.

All these folks I keeping for 10 years, don't sale yourself short, your telling me you worth $5MM in 10 years you driving 10 year old Tundra?

Looks like Sweers even knew of the cooling concern in the 2019's
"Sweers’ goal was mainly durability, but also to encourage drivers who would otherwise be intimidated by towing or put off by anecdotal accounts of towing harming older Tundras".

Anyone who feels 225F trans temps on regular basis doesn't affect reliability has drank to much koolaid

This post lost all credibility when it was posted to the 2.5 Gen section. I can't believe the new truck has been announced for 48 hours and people are still making these missteps.

Listening to Mike Sweers these past 2 days I am convinced the removal was a monetary decision based on consumer "metrics" of usage. Not a removal of over engineering.

The entire Turd Gen is built around that philosophy.

Notice on the engine layout posted earlier of the 2022 Tundra does not show a transmission cooling fin set up in the front. Bet they have some type of coolant to oil puck like the 2019-2021 tundras. Any preliminary testing on the 2022 showing transmission temps. How much you want to bet the new norm is higher operating temps.
