Can anyone point me in the right direction for troubleshooting my RV refrigerator ? The freezer gets down to 35 degrees but the refrigerator section barely gets cold. I’ve tried both propane and electric, same scenario. Would like to tinker with it myself before I call the AC repair guy or take it in to a place like Camping World. Thanks in advance.

You probably already done most of this troubleshooting, mode selection changes, etc.

What a pain in the ass. Lol.

You can get some coil condenser cleaner at HD. Works well on home and auto units as well.

Q1 - after how long are you checking the temp?

Q2 - where is the "slide" set to in the Fridge? (been a while since I looked) there is a slide in the fridge, on the back fins, called the thermister.

if this is frozen over - gets a bad reading...so defrost it.
the higher up on the fins, the colder the fridge is supposed to get.
also, I place a 12v fan in the fridge (they make a battery operated one that lasts weeks on Amazon...) and will circulate the cold in the fridge better...

I've checked the temp as much as 2 days later.
I did try moving the thermister up just a little.
Further investigation reveals, it works fine on electric, 0 degrees freezer and 30 degrees fridge section. But on propane, 30 degrees freezer and 50 degrees in the fridge section. I'll probably try the fan trick next.

Sorry about the subject line, I meant FRIDGE question..

No worries, the fridge can take a few days to get to temp on propane (in my experience)...if it is not working properly, then you may have a "burner" issue with the propane.

If you get it up to temp on electric, switch to propane, and the temp drops .... then you may have either a flow or other issue with the propane portion of the burner...try cleaning out the tube on the outside - might be a spider or some other debris in there...do a google search on how to clean out the tubes.

    good luck

the way these work (high level) is that there is ammonia in the lines...the burner plate "boils" the ammonia and it rises...as it falls, the liquid cools the fridge / freezer.

electric - heats hte burner with electricity...
propane, heats the burner on propane...

if one works and the other not as well...probably in the propane side of the equation.

Thank you, I'm gonna try tinkering with the burner today. I'll report back what I find.
