Had a 2016 Tundra 1794 with 77K miles. Owed $22K on it, saw here that sell/trade was crazy money so I checked -- KBB was minimum $37K on a trade. I've never seen that in my life and might not again. Question was, Should I leverage it? Sat on it for a while because what would I get -- a '21 Tundra which is basically the same truck? Should I get a Sequoia which I like but ain't the greatest for the $$$? Should I sell high just to have to buy high?

Ended up trading for a new '21 Sequoia TRD Pro. Do I like it better? Yes for the ride, which was the main thing.

    Why

1.Seats. Bad back, pain all day every day, had a Sequoia before and the seats are way more comfy than the Tundra, which I noticed the second I sat in the Tundra. Thought I'd get used to it, never really did. To me the Sequoia TRD Pro is like 10x more comfortable.

    2. I spend a lot of time driving to my kids' out of state sports events. Road trips. Hotels. The Sequoia is more suited to it and more secure storage in it.

    3. For close to the same payment (money is still cheap), got the first new vehicle I've had since my first "no name" 'Yota truck way back in the day.

    4. For whatever reason it's easier for my wife to drive.

    5. Might sound nuts to you, but my dog (Lab) is way more relaxed in a Sequoia. I think she feels more secure in the 3rd row. or lying next to someone in the 2nd row. Yes I love my dog!

    Sequoia

    1. Almost didn't get it because it's a little out of date (looking) but the TRD look is the best of 'em to my eyes.

    2. Is it too much $$$ for what you get? If you want "tech" bells and whistles, yes. I don't care about that. I own a Toyota because it drives great and is super-reliable, not because I want an iPad with wheels. That said, for that much $$$ Toyota should take a little more pride in what they offer at least relative to the Platinum.

    3. Way more comfy (TRD suspension/Fox shocks = Caddy "boat" ride), and internal sound (stereo) is better than the Tundra I had.

    4. Wish the TRD Pro had cooled seats and for the money it should, but not a deal-breaker for me because I don't live in the South (yet!).

    What I miss

    1. I miss a truck (duh). Loved it. Hope to own another one again.

    2. I miss a truck bed.

All I can think of right now....

Congratulations on getting a deal you were happy with. Sequoias are great vehicles. You’re right about the bells and whistles, but it’s dependable as hell and very comfortable to drive. My wife’s last Sequoia has over 200,000 miles on it with not a single mechanical failure. Everything but the wearable parts are still original on it.

Trade was at least $37K. "At least" because they offered me $37K, which did not include things like TRD exhaust (on build sheet), Bilstein shocks (Craigslist find), couple other things. So they listed the trade value at $37K and zero off on the MSRP on the new Sequoia, which killed me but around me (Northeast) most were going for that or above. 3 other were sold out from under me and this one was out on overnight loan then came back. I said find me another $1K and we have a deal. They ended up taking it off the price of the new vehicle. They were pretty eager to get the trade because that got them 2 vehicles to sell and their lots are sparse.

Got black! Only black and white available at decent prices, for whatever reason the grey/green and charcoal were going for more here.

My '08 Sequoia I think had 240K miles on it -- and I bought it at 160K!

I think Carvana was offering me $28-29K -- not enough.

Carvana is hit or miss. I’ve sold them two vehicles both for way more than I could get on a trade. Flipped my 2019 for a 2021… they gave me $5k more than I paid on my 2019 which was 2 years old. Others report not so great offers so it’s a crap shoot.

Yep, Carvana's offer was lower than the $25.6K that KBB just offered me for my 14 with 122K miles! I paid $24.9K 23 months ago for my 14. Not a huge increase but an increase nevertheless after two years of ownership and 18K miles. Crazy times indeed.

    I had a '17 86 with 20k miles. It was perfect. Carvana offered 15k. I got 18,800 from AutoNation.

    Couple-week update:
    1. Gotta say a pickup truck looks cooler (to me).
    2. Same engine but I think the TRD exhaust on the Tundra made the acceleration quicker and stronger.
    3. Smaller fuel tank ain't the greatest. Wish it held more.
    4. Possibly worse mileage? Not much tho.
    5. Sequoia seats are still crazy comfortable.

Congrats on the new SUV. I have always wanted one in a platinum trim.

Wish that I could afford one. Have goals to meet though.

I hear you. I couldn't afford one either, but with that insane trade and low cost of money right now I could!
