I purchased an '18 with steel wheels about a month ago, and would like to swap to OEM alloys. I bought a set of standard 18" 5 spoke alloys from a 2014. Unfortunately my local shop informed me that my TPMS sensors wouldn't fit due to wheel taper. Can anyone tell me if the TPMS sensors changed between 2014 and 2018, or if the sensors used on steel wheels are different than alloys? They are quoting me $320 for installation of aftermarket sensors, which I didn't factor in to the budget for this endeavor...

18+ have all new sensors. They are not compatible with pre 18 sensors.

sensors are different between steel and alloy wheels due to the material thickness

Probably not interchangeable one rim might take a 20 degree sensor the other 40 degree.

    Welcome from NY.

Steel rims use a different TPMS sensor than alloy rims.

Thank you all for the quick replies. Sounds like I'm on the hook for sensors either way- unless I find alloy takeoffs that actually still have them.

My local shop uses Schrader or Bosch sensors, any other recommendations that will fit the 2014 alloys and maybe save me a few bucks?

The 18’ sensors are super finicky with aftermarket. I think it’s mostly due to most places have not updated their equipment to calibrate the new sensors from pre 18’. Oem tend to be the only ones that actually work right out the box but the dealership would need to do it.
