Not sure exactly what you're looking for here. If your connect app doesn't work, then you don't have connectivity. Next is to test your fob and see if that remote starts.

I'm assuming you can go into your general settings on your radio and see what Entune you have.

2020 trd off-road, I subscribe, mainly for the auto start, but I cannot for the life of me get the fob to start the truck. I don’t have the upgraded audio system, so curious if that’s why.

wish I could figure it out and get it to work lol

It's tricky and I'm not sure why. It's like the pauses between pressing has to be just right.

I have the bare bones audio and my fob works. Mine works nearly every time, no issues with the 3 presses

So my remote start works with the key fob. It’s takes practice, but it works. So I bought my 2020 used and was wandering how do I tell what radio system I have to get an idea how long this thing will work. Also if the subscription expires does the remote start with the key fob still work or no. Maybe I’m missing it.

I would assume the key fob system is separate from the app meaning it would still work without app connectivity. I don’t know this for sure.

The key fob generally works on radio frequency and a proximity from the vehicle.

The app on the internet and connectivity from almost anywhere. I think this is how Toyota set it up since 2018-2020 ish.

Like almost every manufacturer they installed a telematics ecu that connects the truck to the outside world.

I work in forensic engineering and we were just talking about this last week at work. We were talking about Ford specifically but with the “app” connectivity platforms and now over the air programming on the same network, the amount of data coming in and out of new vehicles is crazy. My bosses face when I explained to him the reasons his Mercedes app knew the odometer, fuel range, ect was because his car was transmitting the data out to Mercedes network was funny.

I would just say this, if you plan on committing a serious crime make sure you drive a vehicle several years old without this connectivity. Ford announced their “Ford Pass” would be free for life, the reason why is the value in the data your vehicle is sending to them everyday.

For example I know of one situation where an intoxicated driver was in a wreck that resulted in an innocent loss of life. Let’s just say the authorities know exactly where he was timeframes at the bar, times door was opened to the truck, when the ignition was turned on, full track log of drive with speeds ect. This info came out of the truck, if the truck is storing it, it can also be sent out on the over the air network to the manufacturer.

This seems different than the methods I’ve tried. I’ll have to give this a whirl when I get back to my truck Monday!

Only 20 and 21 because thats when they got the new head unit with carplay and android auto, 19 still has the old radio, no remote connectivity that I am aware of anyway.

If you run your vin at Toyota owners . Com (you need an account but it’s free) it will tell you the options installed on your truck.

I did this before I bought my truck. I asked the seller yea it has remote start right and he goes no. I bought it drove it down the street and stopped for lunch. Hopped out hit lock twice, then held it, truck started right up.

The Toyota specs told me it had factory remote start, previous owner never knew.

Silly question time. Does the remote start only work with the push button start trucks?

No my 2007 came with factory remote start. Long before any trucks has push button start.

Thanks. I tried the keyfob button trick but it didn't work. Must be operator error.

Yea hit the lock button twice quickly truck should beep and flash each time.

Then on the third press hold the lock button down until it beeps/flashes.

This last beep/flash is the truck acknowledging the remote start signal.

It should then start if you have the system

After finding out i have remote start, I actually hate how it shuts off automatically after unlocking or opening the door. I wished I didn't find out about it and would have been easier to justify the purchase of a normal operating one. Does anyone know if an after market one remote start interferes with alarm and GBS or the approach or the electronic door handles..?

My 21 has remote start as I verified it. I hit the red button on the top counsel and had Toyota remove the monitoring. Since then it doesn’t work.

If you have push button start, which Im assuming you do since you said electronic door handles. Even an aftermarket remote start will shut the car down when the doors are opened. If you do happened to have a key start, an aftermarket remote start will work just fine and not shut off when the doors are opened.
