This is my first post on this forum. Brief automotive history; was that quintessential Range Rover, BMW, etc. Totally abandoned all the status nonsense in early 2000’s when I purchased my first Toyota, a Sequoia for my wife at her insistence. Never looked back….till now. Just acquired a ‘22 Tundra SR5 on the 17th of December. In short; it was effectively DOA.
It started throwing codes the second day. In and out of dealership shop. TX factory is seeing real time feeds from the truck. Third visit results in retaining truck for extensive diagnostics. Result is numerous issues requiring parts that can’t be sourced (from the production line) till late Feb/early March. Obviously unacceptable. Was assigned case team out of TX. Talk, no change in dates. Sincere, but ineffectual rhetoric.
I typically lease my vehicles then pay them off at lease termination. Reached out to Toyota finance. Took position the lease either needed to be tolled or terminated as I’d not received the “reciprocal consideration”. They didn’t appreciate my legal education and it’s consequence perspective.
Fast forward two weeks of me navigating both Finance and Production teams hierarchy. In the end…two days ago the dealership, without any participation from Toyota, who refused to assist, stepped up and are delivering a new vehicle. And not just another new one but a significant upgrade from what I purchased and with no additional consideration.
In conclusion I’m so disappointed in Toyota. Shameful dishonorable behavior. The dealership is a local family owned group with several brands and locations. They’ve always been this way about anything, but this was beyond stand up. Couldn’t say enough good about them.
I’ve been informed by the dealership these issues with this new Tundra are not isolated to my vehicle.
Who else is experiencing these issues with the ‘22 Tundra

Wow - that's the worst experience I have heard of or read about with Toyota. Congrats on the upgrade - please keep us posted. I sure hope that first '22 experience was a fluke. And Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)!

It really sucks to start off with a new vehicle like this. Even though you got an upgrade, your confidence is shaken. Nothing is going to fill that void except the truck being reliable and fun.

In order: Orvis dog cover for rear bench seat, OE gun safe, Husky liners front/rear, Tyger tonneau tri fold, Rough Country seat covers
No offense to new gen early adopters but it has always been rule of thumb to wait a year or two until the bugs are worked out. Toyota QA seems to have declined since the 90s and it’s getting worse err missing trans cooler, subscription service bugs, safety sensors, etc.

Its awesome the dealer did the right thing. Best of luck with the new one and hopefully it’s not a problem child. I think there’s a thread already about 22 issues if you search around.

You’re so spot on. The dichotomy; my faith in the dealership is immeasurable and as is my disappointment in Toyota.
