Just filled out a questionnaire on the experimental tailgate that Toyota is looking into. I wasn't able to download the videos. Maybe someone else has seen it.

I have no idea what they are cooking up.

I would guess that they are looking to compete with the new tailgates from other manufacturers. Maybe something that opens in multiple ways, or has a built-in step.

Sorry, the video clips where of an automated tailgate. The 6 videos total, 2 of Fob opening and closing, 2 of sensors in the taillight area for opening and closing, 2 for foot and hand sensors for closing. My input was how much and ease of repair when needed and of course tailgate removal.

They wanted to know how interested I would be in having one, how much I would be willing to pay ( said no more than $400), how useful I thought it would be. I did the survey on my phone so I didn't download the videos. I'll say it I'm an idiot should have done it on my computer.

Maybe they should send out some questionnaires to non Tundra owners to get an idea of what it would take to get converts from other makes ?

    I received the same email.
Basically asking my opinion on Power Tailgate Options, while loading/unloading (video used a cooler as an example)
    1. Key Fob activated Power up/down
    2. Taillight located sensor - Activated by Elbow (carrying cooler)
    3. Power up/down button on tailgate handle/lock
    4. Power assisted up/down (carrying cooler, nudge up tailgate and power takes over)

I'd want them to do something closer to what GM (tailgate steps of some sort) vs the power gate options ya'll are talking about. right now it's too hard and (a little) dangerous to get in the bed of our trucks. even my dad's 2013 F150 has that little step feature that slides in/out of the tailgate, which i think is pretty good idea.

Not in favor of the power options b/c it will be so expensive to buy and fix once it breaks

I'd only be ok with this as long as they keep the regular handle so we can open the tailgate manually if needed. Stories of guys who can't get into their beds was just one of the reasons I didn't buy a GM.
