After leaving my 2015 Tundra LTD Crew Max at my local Toyota dealer service department last week for a radio repair, decided to look at a new 2022 Tundra 1794 and went for a ride. Told the salesperson after the test ride that it was nice but not the right one. When I got home I thought why not at least get a trade value on mine since it was at their service department. They wanted me to come back and negotiate in person. I said just come back with an approximate value and lets see what the deal would look like before negotiating in person. They could not even bother to walk over to the service department to put a value on mine. Finally, they came back today in an email and said that without my age, they could not come up with a final deal number. I sent them and the owner back a not so nice email. Is asking for a person's age to do a deal against Federal law??

Wow, never heard of a dealership asking about age.

Hmm, seems like they're traversing a slippery slope with that question. Just the fact that they wouldn't "walk over and look" to give you an estimate would keep me from doing business with them.

Over the years, I purchased a new 2015 Tundra LTD Crew Max, a new 2012 Sienna XLE, a new 2015 Scion XB from this same dealer. I was not very happy with their new car sales division, yet ironically I've used this same dealer's service department since day one and give service an A+. After reading some of the discussions about the 2022 Tundra decided to keep my 2015 LTD Crew Max but just thought that the age question today was way over the line.

Oh, I've got you beat! When I was shopping in the late summer of 2020, Wilsonville Toyota (south of Portland, Oregon) said they needed my SSN to check inventory. Needless to say, I purchased elsewhere.

I haven't dealt with Larry Miller Dodge but have had a couple dealings with Larry Miller Toyota, and will never do any business with them.

It’s definitely not smart of them. It’s like a potential employer asking age during interview except lower stakes?

    Alot of them
Dealers have been know to pull your credit without permission. He wanted your ssn so that he could do that to try to sell a truck. I called one of our local dealers out for running my SSN. They have previous customers files with all the info. They tried to say that they didn't run it. I showed them the email from CK showing the inquiry and threatened them with a BBB complaint.

A 17 year old with a 700 to 800 horse power car? They might have saved his life. Depends on the kid. Some actually race with more horsepower that are younger than that. I guess it would depend on his background. Did he ever get a Hellcat?

Dealership wanting your SS number is out of line in my opinion. You were there to possibly purchase a vehicle, not to retire! Only places I know for sure that require your SS info is of course the Social Security Administration and the IRS. Everyone else is just out to steal your personal info. My two cents worth!
