I have a 2020 tundra and i use the toyota auto start through my phone. Is that controlled by the stereo deck. If i go with an aftermarket deck do i lose that auto start function.

Its a limited with no JBL.

    Thanks

I think registration for the service isn't possible without the OEM head unit. I suspect once you are registered you don't need the OEM HU. Lets see what folks say.

My 2021 Limited with keyless ignition, auto starts through the fob. Does yours not?

I have a 21 Limited DC with remote start through the app and the key fob. The app works much better for me. Using the key fob, I can't tell if the truck has started unless I can hear it. With the app, I can see on my phone if it is running. With the app, I don't have to be in the same zip code, but using the key fob, you have to be close bye.

Yes I understand how remote start works.

my question was can I still use the app if I replace the radio with aftermarket. I’m not sure what part of the truck connects to the auto start app but I assumed it was the head unit.

so Is there anyone with an aftermarket stereo unit who still uses the app for remote start?

Have you reached out to Toyota via their remote services?
To reiterate my previous post in this thread your Toyota head unit generates a code that needs to be entered to register for app services. I don't remember precisely but I think the headunit generates a unique code for every registration attempts; it is basically a timed two factor authentication transmitted to the head unit or vice versa they email it to be entered into the head unit.

Also recommend contacting a mod and getting this topic moved to Gen 2.5 subforum to get Gen 2.5 owner eyeballs on it.
