When I bought my 2021, the salesman set me up with connecting my truck with the Toyota app. I think the trial service is good for one year? I'll probably just let it expire when it's up.

For those that have it, how much use do you really get out of it?

I use the Remote Connect feature all the time to cool down my truck when I'm walking out of work, it's also nice that it reminds me if I've left the truck unlocked.

Yep, I pay for the remote connect too. It's definitely worth it for the few times it told me the doors were unlocked.

Remote Connect is the only one I'll continue to pay when mine expires end of July. Love the auto start from the app.

I use the app pretty regularly. I didn't think I would, but I use it enough that I renewed for just the Remote Connect after my free year was up. $80 for the year was worth it to me.

A couple of weeks ago, I had to go out of town for work. While I was gone, my wife drove the truck and left the doors unlocked a couple of times. I know because the app told me about it. So I locked my doors (on the Alabama coast) from Owensboro, Kentucky! My wife thought she had remembered to lock it.

I swore I would not buy the remote connect or any other service. But after having used it for the trial period, I find I use it a lot. I seem to be getting more and more forgetful with my age, and I am surprised at how many times it has warned me that I accidentally left my truck unlocked while in a restaurant or after I just walked a mile or two to get to my hunting/fishing spot. In fact, this just happened on a trip to New Orleans. The wife and I had to find a place to park around the quarter that wasn't very close, but after we got a few blocks away I got a notice on my phone that I had forgotten to lock it. Not the best place to leave a vehicle unlocked as you can imagine. Pretty nice to be able to just lock it with that app instead of interrupting what I'm doing or walking all the way back to get within the meager remote range. It expires here in just a couple of days and I think I'm going to subscribe just for that.

The remote start by app, I'll likely never use. Being able to lock the doors, that's kind of nice. I'm still pretty new to it, but it seems like the unlocked notification on my phone does not go away after I lock the doors (if I lock via remote or at the truck door). So then I later see the notification and question if it's still valid. As a result, I've generally not been paying attention to it. But, we'll see. Maybe I'll still change my mind about it.

I can say this, I'm not a big fan of how the system is keeping track of my trips.

Check the build link in my signature.
There’s a place you can opt out of the trip tracking.
I use the door lock feature a lot, and in the recent hot weather used the remote start a lot as well. I’m sure I’ll renew the remote connect. Don’t see a need for the on-star-like thing though

I opted out of the trip tracking like RainMan. Its in the settings. But if you're going to live with the conveniences of smartphone apps of any kind (don't forget, on most smartphones, even the cell phone feature is an app), its likely all kinds of things about your life are being tracked that you aren't ever going to be aware of...at least the Toyota app let you know it was doing it.

The app is functional though it leaves a bit to be desired -- such as telling you your sunroof is open. I haven't noticed a single feature/change since I installed the app.

I bought my truck 2 months ago and can’t even connect it. Tried to update. Every few days I try it again and still no luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The dealership ran me through the setup of mine. They didn't offer to guide you through that?

I read the manual and it seems pretty self explanatory. I get the prompt “network unavailable at this time” every time I try to connect or update

Yeah, I didn't even get a chance to read the manual and set it up myself. The sales guy ran me through it real fast.

    Too many, but not enough....
Does the remote door lock feature work if you have a mechanical key? Never noticed the feature....
