One thing is, if your pain is worse in the morning, you may find that by taking the new med (which may make you loopy) right before bed that you don't even notice the side effects but wake up w/less pain... maybe!!??

 

I'm not a doctor (disclaimer); but, I think if you don't already have suicidal thoughts or tenancies, they probably won't manifest just due to the pill... Kinda like all the warnings for anti-depressants and bi-polar meds..

 

One of our Chaplains made a really good analogy during a debrief once... He said that we all enter life w/a big bucket; and throughout life that bucket starts to fill up w/pebbles, rocks and boulders! Major stressors, critical incidents, divorce, death/sickness of family member, work, family life, etc.. anytime you have to see or experience some shit that ain't "normal", it adds to your bucket...

Eventually the load in that bucket starts to weigh you down, and when it starts to get too heavy you fatigue (emotionally/mentally) and you start to reach a point where you can no longer sustain the load; this is when bad thoughts/shit start to happen..

Some folks are built a little stronger than others and can carry more; others are more frail and can only handle much less weight....

But, in the end, we all have a bucket and given enough rocks/weight, we can all reach a breaking point; so, when you can take a minute and help someone w/their bucket even if it's only a few pebbles or just to simply ask if they are okay w/their current load... Watch for signs in those around you that you care about because there are times when you may need to take some larger rocks, boulders or even the entire bucket to help that person through....

It really made sense and hit home for a lot of us... Following that debrief/incident we found ourselves communicating with each other a lot more; a short time after that one, was really the first time I remember someone coming up to me and saying 'I'm having a hard time w/this' and opening up a bit...

...trusting that someone isn't gonna rat fuck you after you 'share' is a hard thing (especially for our personality types); but, we kept it in house and made sure guys were good!!!

About a year or so later, we opened things up even more and arranged a "workshop" for the spouses of our guys and gave them some really good tools for keeping a lazy on things and being able to recognize when one of the guys was just venting or having acute trouble vs. red flag shit that needs a bit more attention!

 

Fuck, there may be one out there already; I'm pretty sure they all (Chaplains) have seminars and such. He may have gotten it from someone else?!

 

You're not wromg here. Not that you can dismiss it, but it's always good to keep in mind (especially in a case lile gabapentin) who the drug was tested on ; people with seizure disorders. List of possible random side effects starts to make a little more sense.
Accutane is another good example where you're looking at a population of young adults with serious acne issues and people are assholes. Some of those studied brought emotional baggage to the drug study.

 

Ok, funny ass shit!!!! So, every time I saw your screen name (on the side of your posts), I thought it was PhilSinger (just scanning it real quick). Today, for some reason, I look at it and.... Ohhhhhhhhh!!!! Now it makes sense!

 

I think I'd be putting "drug dealer" on all my business cards if I were a pharmacist. It's cliché, but still makes my inner 12 year old giggle.

Hey crüu. One of my crews on the roof about to break for lunch. I’m back in the truck dealing with other things and about to go grab some lunch myself, and then handle a repair this afternoon in the hot as balls Louisiana heat. Thank goodness for cooled seats!

This roof here is 14,000sqft of shingles, including waste. Monster house.

 

Oof. I do not miss roofing. Did cedar shakes for a summer, and I will forever and always hate roofing as a result.

I guess I’m a glutton for punishment. I still get up there and work with the guys from time to time, but mostly just oversee jobs or check in with my project manager or have him run material, etc. I went to college but swinging a hammer pays well; No one wants to do it. lol

I do however handle about 90% of repair jobs myself. That’s honestly the best money. Margins are higher and I only have to pay myself! Can sometimes do 2 or 3 repair tickets per day. It just sucks in the heat…. I go through a lot of shirts and by the weekends I am usually beat worthless on handling any honey-do’s.





Anytime I’m up on something steep or sketchy I send my wife a pic. Otherwise she probably thinks I just drive around all day listening to Pantera and drinking slushies ​
