The proper phase is "Well, I'll be damned".
    At least in my upbringing..

This is the absolutely the correct phrase, spelling included. But I was thinking of Aunt Bee. And, ain't no way never, she would utter the D word.
Now Beavis on the other hand...

Yup. I spent a few days in the hospital and then at my buddies house after he had to have two spine surgeries in a week. They weren't going to do shit for 2 months. Only reason he got help was because he has a neurologist friend who told him the exact words and phrases to use to get admittance at the ER. The VA literally said "you're lucky you have the appointment in 6 weeks" after he was begging them to get him help. He told the lady "If you want me to die there are easier ways. How about I come down to the office and you can watch it happen?" She hung up on him.

Is it any wonder veteran suicides are so damn high when they get that kind of treatment?

Sad but true. Every year we do contributions to a charity or support group and I always look at veterans groups I can donate to.

No clue about their trucks, but I've driven in a lot of their taxi's and mini-vans being used as Ubers (called Didi) in China. They are very well built. No rattles or fitment issues. The gaps between panels, especially in the interior is Toyota-level quality. The designs of the software for the stereo, HVAC and whatnot is very nice too. Other than the funky looks and suspect privacy rules, there's nothing wrong about 'em.

I've been in the system for 24 years and I've horrible experiences and I've had great experiences. At 28, I remember always being the youngest person there. Hell, one of the Oncology nurses told me that everybody knew me because I was so young. That changed after 9/11 when I saw a young woman in a wheelchair without a leg. :(

The docs are overworked. They don't have anybody in there doing dictation for them and they deal with a shit ton of veterans (and, lets face it, a lot of us Vets are assholes). The good ones are there because they love helping veterans and the bad ones are there because... hell, I don't know.

I can say through experience that the trick to getting anywhere with the VA is to keep your cool, be kind to the receptionists no matter how shitty they are, and if you don't like the answer you get, walk down or call the Patient Representatives office. All of the VA clinics have them and their sole purpose is to help Veterans navigate the system. If you don't get anywhere with them, you get with a Veterans group (like the AMVETS) or write your congressman. I've done it all but it usually only takes a talk with the patient rep to get things rolling the right way.

I'm very thankful for the care my country has given me. I wish I didn't need it but I'm thankful for it none the less.

My buddy is the nicest guy and genuinely tries to be kind to everyone, until they give him a reason not to. He called repeatedly asking for help and was just dismissed. He was literally at risk of being a quadriplegic if he moved or sneezed wrong, and they didn't care. I get that there are good and bad people in any job, but the VA is a mess. Wyoming has had 2 other veterans commit suicide recently because they couldn't get in for the same kind of injuries and pain that he was in.

He is in contact with our Congresswoman and one of our Senators. We need to do better for our Veterans. You all deserve so much better than we have given, even if you are grateful for what you're had, we can do better.

I get it for sure and there is no excuse for him being dismissed. I initially wrote a really long ass reply but deleted it because it was REALLY long. I pretty much had the same thing happen to me in the beginning. I went to the ER after I got out of the Army. ER doc said to get into the VA for a follow-up immediately. I called the VA Outpatient Clinic in Austin, explained to them that the ER told me to get in with them and the person said "Okay, we have an opening in February." Problem was, that it was November.

I ended up calling back and the Austin operator didn't answer so it forwarded up to the VA Hospital in Temple. Operator answered and I told her what was going on. She said "Just a moment" and the next thing I knew I was talking to the regional nursing supervisor and I again, explained what was happening. She basically said somebody would call me back the next day. 40 minutes after I got off of the phone, the Austin Clinic called me and I had an appointment for the next day.

I realize I've been one of the luckier unlucky ones.

completly agree with these comments... a good attitude and a kind word can get a lot done with the VA.

I have had it a month or so, but never took photos of it. Pulled the grill to get a huge dead bug off of the radiator. Took some photos.

But yes, it is loud and crisp for what it is.
