Towing - why isn't auto braking and backup sensor disabled?

I bought my 2023 Tundra to tow my boat. I'm a fishing guide so I tow often. Maybe I'm missing something but when I select the tow haul mode you would think it would turn off the rear parking sensors when I back up my boat. It beeps continuously because it detects the boat behind my truck. A bigger issue is while in reverse the automatic braking slams on the brakes because it senses the boat behind me. I have to manually turn these features off every time I tow. You'd think that someone at Toyota would have put some thought into this. At the very least, Toyota should give you a saved towing profile that triggers when Tow Haul mode is activated.

Only if it's a 7 pin connector. If it's a small trailer using the 4 pin it is not auto-disabled. At least I think that's what I remember the last one of these threads popped up.

I don't think it's necessarily 7 pin related, but more specifically electric brakes.

I tow a utility trailer weekly that I use a 7 pin adapter and I have to disable everything

My RV with electric brakes will disable RCTA and auto extend the BSM with the trailer profile selected.

It would be interesting if a 7 pin trailer with surge brakes is the same setup as my adapter.

To address the OP, I agree 100%. Seems like total oversight as the truck for sure knows there is a trailer. At a minimum the sensors and auto brake should be disabled.

Thank you both for responding. My boat trailer has surge brakes with a 7 pin connector. It automatically disables RCTA and probably adjusts for BSM. I found that auto braking didn't disable while backing down the boat ramp. My brakes locked up two or three times. I read the manual and firgured out the two settings that I needed to make. I'm an IT guy and we have a saying, "you need to eat your own dog food". In other words, the engineers need to hook up a boat, trailer it to a boat ramp, back it down and understand the consequences of their shortsightedness.

What were the two settings that you changed? I've had the same issue

Now open your driver side door while backing up for yet another surprise gift from Toyota engineering team!

The auto braking is to the left of the steering wheel, the button looks like a car with a parking cone. The parking beep is accessed via the steering wheel menu. I believe it’s Parking, set to off. The dash shows irritating orange icons once disabled.

    What’s wrong with stock?
This can be bypassed by putting the truck in park then reverse again. It worked for me last time I tried.

Having this same issue with my boat trailer. Trailer is surge/hydraulic and I have to manually disable parking sensor beep and auto braking parking cone button every time I tow. My trailer uses a 7 pin connector, however, I assume because the blue wire is only connected to the reverse solenoid lockout the truck doesn't recognize the trailer still.

My question is whether anyone has found a way to trick the truck into recognizing the trailer automatically with surge/hydraulic brakes?
