So I’ve been hauling a lot lately using 5x9 and 6x12 trailers. This morning, when I went to start up the truck, the brake light came on (not the parking brake).

Message comes up stating to check the brake system, and the headunit states it was low fluid. When I was on a downhill section, it seems like the fluid covered the sensor which then turned off the brake warning light.

How does towing affect brake fluid?

Mine was right on MIN when I checked and just added some more OEM DOT3 brake fluid to about between MAX and MIN.

When I changed out my OEM brake lines to SDHQ SS brake lines, I did a whole flush when I replaced rotors and pads and made sure there was sufficient fluid. I’m pretty sure there aren’t any leaks, but going to dive in during this next oil change to double check all the bleeder valves and lines.

More trailering means more use and west on your brake pads. As these wear, they get thinner and the caliper pistons will not retract as far when you release the brakes. All normal stuff.

Inspect pad thickness and replace if needed. Double check everywhere for leaks. Top off fluid when done.

Be mindful if you top off fluid without pad replacement, you will likely need to suck out a little fluid before you compress the pistons to insert new pads. Don’t want that fluid on painted parts…
