I'm still debating doing 488 gears as I feel my truck is sluggish off the line but when I use the tow/haul button the power off the line is so much better. The only problem with tow/haul is that the accelerator pedal is way too sensitive. Is there a way to keep the power and tone down the sensitivity while in tow/haul?

I’m definitely a newb, but this is a real thing? The tow/haul button makes that much of a difference?

In my previous truck (Ram) all it did was hold on to gears longer to prevent constantly shifting.

Makes a huge difference. If I can only get rid of the sensitivity I wouldn’t even think of 488’s.

You’re right about it holding the gears for longer but I’m not hard on the gas so for me that’s not a problem.

I supposed a BD or DAP tune will do the trick? I also read threads of some electronic accelerator gadget that alters the pedal. What are you thinking?

    Aaaaalllllllrrrriiiiigggghhhhttttt.

    Now we’re talking.

So I want to turn VSC off without engaging the LSD? And I do that by holding the VSC button down for three seconds twice instead of just pushing it? Is that how it works?

If you think your Tundra is "slow off the line", get yourself into a Gen 3 Tacoma. The Tundra is a rocket in comparison.

    For 3rd gen:
Press traction control once (short press).
Press and hold traction control for 3-6 seconds (don’t remember how long, but lights on the dash cut off on press, release button when lights come on).
    Press again for 3-6 seconds.
Must be stopped(? Or in park?)

Press haul ass button (labeled as “tow / haul for some reason....)

    Beast Mode engaged!
    :D

Throttle is extra sensitive. But you get used to it and it’s just a shit ton of fun!

I love seeing a new Tundra owner finding out about this for the first time. You’re in for a hell of a ride.

Just be careful around curves, cops, and mailboxes.

    Oh nice! Thank you!

So hit VSC once, then hold for 3 seconds twice?

My good friend is on his second Tundra. His first was I think a 2009; last year he picked up a low mileage 2015 lease trade in. Both trucks are obviously awesome. One of his observations though was that the 2009 had a much punchier throttle response, and he says he noticed the 2015 is programmed a bit different, probably to save fuel. He says the 2015 in tow/haul is what the 2009 felt like all the time, and the tow/haul on the 2009 only changed the shift points around a little. I've never driven anything but my 2018 so I have no way to compare, but it seems like it could be attempt to help with fuel economy.

Tried it this morning. Seems like most of the benefit is a more sensitive throttle response. Reminds me of the canned tunes when I had my Mustang. 75% of the perceived power addition was just the computer adjusting throttle sensitivity - basically causing you to give the vehicle more gas without realizing it.

Of course, if you want to smoke the tires, turning off traction control and increasing throttle response is the way to do it. But I’m guessing we’re not really unleashing any more HPs here, and it’s not doing anything that mashing the throttle a little harder wouldn’t do. Sorry to be that guy...

It also holds gears longer (tow haul). But to your larger point: You’re not wrong. But it is more fun to drive with higher shift points and better throttle response :)

Close. You don’t need the first step of just pressing it briefly. Just hold it for three seconds and stability control turns off and LSD turns on. Hold it again for three more seconds and LSD turns back off and all traction control turns off. Then you could do one wheel burn outs all day. Hit tow haul and it’s even more fun!

My first Tundra was a 2007 and I never used tow/haul, because the pedal was ridiculous. I think there was a service bulletin about adjusting it? I don't remember now, but it was way, way more sensitive than my 2016. Almost hard to drive actually.

My BIL has a 2010. He said it happened over time: throttle sensitivity went way up. I’ve driven his... It feels like you tap the petal and it’s full throttle - all or nothing lol

I have a 2011 that my daughter drives now, and a 2017. This is 100% accurate. It’s actually one of the first questions I asked on this site. I was highly disappointed in the loss of acceleration, and didn’t know about the traction control trick yet.
That said, even with the trick, my 2011 would smoke the new one any day. It is a dc instead of crewmax, with smaller tires and no lift, but I don’t think that’s all of it. I’d venture to say a gen 2 with the same specs as my gen 3 would be much faster.

Now I need to go home and take the old panty dropper out for a spin. :(

I myself came from an 07 CM 2wd and now in a 14 CM 2wd but the 07 was 100% stock and the 14 has 3/1 with 295/70/18. Huge difference as far as off the line feel but its much nicer that the 14 throttle is a lot less sensitive. Just wish it had the pep of tow/haul without engaging it. Still on the fence about doing either gears or tune. Unfortunately I know it'll end up being both :spending::spending::spending:

Well, I guess ignorance is bliss. My previous truck was that awful 16 Tacoma, and the 18 Tundra (my first Tundra) is absolutely awesome in terms of power, acceleration, and overall performance. Clearly I don't know what I'm missing :)

Let us know if you got it sorted out.
Sorry to be late in responding, but as you can see from the other replies, it's a well known/fun feature.
    To help clarify and in short, to turn the 'nannies' off (step 1 -3) and engage beast mode (step 4);

1.) Press the 'Traction Control Off' button once and release. (This will turn on the Auto LSD, which you'll see on the display)
2.) Press the 'Traction Control Off' button and hold for 3 secs, then release (This will keep the Auto LSD on, but will turn off the VSC off)
3.) (As soon as you release from the first, 3 sec. hold) Press and hold the 'Traction Control Off' button again for 3 sec. (This will turn the Traction Control off completely).
    4.) Press the 'Tow/Haul' button
    :burnrubber:
    Thank us later.
P.S. We are not responsible for any shenanigans, attention from police, women's undergarments randomly flying at your truck, etc.
