I have a 2020 trd pro. Yesterday when I started my truck, the touchscreen would not load. The screen on, but it's black and just says 'Starting...' Every few minutes it will go all black, then 'Starting' will reappear. Any ideas whether I'm in for an expensive repair or just a software update?

    Thanks!

    Too many, but not enough....
Have you done any work on the HU before? Do you have aftermarket light bulbs?

They can be temperamental, sometimes it can go into reboot loop but it'll generally figure itself out.

I've had the headunit would go into boot loop when I'm trying to do too much in android auto.

    Thanks for the replies.

MadMax- No, I have not done any work to it.

Downytide- I always plug my phone in right away when I start it up for the apple carplay. I'm not sure if the screen went black after I plugged my phone in, or if it was that way as soon as the truck started. Since then, it doesn't make a difference whether or not I have my phone plugged in or not. The screen just says Starting...

Disconnected for 20 minutes. Screen immediately showed ‘Starting’ again :-/

Try a hard reboot with volume/on off knob ( hold down 3-5 seconds) while it's in that starting mode.

IMHO, I'd just replace it. Maybe not what you want to hear, I understand.

That said...I've owned my 2020 for 5 years, and I just replaced my head unit with a Sony XAV-9000ES 'kit' from Trail Grid Pro last month.

I wish I'd done it back in 2020. It sounds THAT much better. :)

Yeah, taking it to Toyota on Monday. I’ll report back. The screen itself is good because the reverse camera still works fine. ‍♂️
