    Hello,
I am looking to the custom settings to get the Transmission Temp on the 3rd gen Tundra through the Torque App. Previous threads I found were all for the 2nd gen.

Anyone have any info to get this would be greatly appreciated. ty!

other option would be to do a pid search with the app connected to the truck. i used to use torque app but i usually dont pull anything with my 4runner. i only pulled like 1-2 times with the 2018 and used the app.

now that the 23 has a trans temp gauge on the digital dash, dont really need it.

edit: you can set the right side to show :

    Tow gauges

Displays the boost pressure, engine oil temperature, transmission fluid temperature

The JB4 is capable of displaying coolant temp and trans temp. You can also reset codes with it fwiw.

I found that the app "Car Scanner" has the codes for transmission temp. I haven't used it much yet but it seems to work well. (Android and OBDLink LX)

Any update(s) on this one, as I’m trying to use Torque Pro to view transmission temps as well?

I have a ‘22 Limited, so, as far as I know, there no way to view through dash and/or infotainment…

I believe someone above stated that a possible workaround might be utilizing the ‘22 Sequoia PID for trans temp?

The pro version of Car Scanner has the transmission pid and works really well.

I can't speak for the Torque app but I have a '22 limited and use the scanguage ultra when towing through the mountains. You can set it up to view a wide variety of PIDs, including trans temp, current gear, lock up status, ambient air temp, coolant temp, engine oil temp / pressure.. list goes on.

Are you able to go into settings and get the PID number and the Equation code for the PID for Trans Temp? I’ve used OBD Fusion for years on my Tacoma, and on the new Tundra it had dozens of new PIDs for all the Turbo data, Fuel and all the usual but is missing Trans Temp.

Sadly neither of these PIDs returned a value. Bummer. I’ll keep searching. Still haven’t found a working Trans Temp PID

have my SGII / XG from my prior Toyota - used for converter temp, coolant temp, alternator output, engine oil temp.- manufacturer say it should work fine for my Gen3 but did not offer up if the coding was the same. Presume you got your coding from their website? If not sharing would be appreciated. TIA.

Not that I can tell. I'll take another look in about a week - away from the truck right now. I did a quick search for the PID # and equation but it did not appear to be accessible.. Now of course you can manually add them, same as you could in the past. I'm not too sure if that would be necessary anymore because of how it scans and updates over the air. The SGIII scans the truck for PID data through the canbus and does all the magic in the background. Takes a few seconds to load whatever PIDs are currently available, where in the past you would have to go digging on their website. Updates are over WiFi so it looks like the days of manually punching in the PID # and equation are likely gone, at least for the SGIII models.

See above. It was essentially plug and play. I updated the SGIII over WiFi, scanned the truck's PIDs (using the X-gauge Auto Scan feature) that were manufacture specific and that was it. I wish I could say one way or the other, but I have no way or reading the specific PID #s or equations from what was retrieved in the "Auto Scan" , at least that I can tell.

OBD Fusion also scans and presents a load of SAE PIDs. (Way more than I get for my Tacoma) However, Trans Temp is missing and out of a couple dozen Turbo PIDS only a couple work. (Turbo Ctrl Command and Turbo Boost) I manually entered the PID & Equation I had for my ‘16 Tacoma’s Trans Pan temp and it didn’t work. Still looking. Have a friend who’s a 40 yr Master Tech looking through his sources for us.

In OBD Fusion when you go into edit mode to build a custom gauge set (dashboard) you can see each gauge’s individual PID ID and equation.

I’ve been screwing around trying to get trans temps, lockup status, etc on my Gen3 for a while now with OBD Fusion and getting nowhere. I had a SGII that I used to run on my 4Runner when towing and apparently the firmware on it is too old to work with the Gen3 Tundra. There was the option to send it back to them and have the firmware updated. I just decided to buy a SGIII instead and it’s so much better. Can display up to 9 PIDs on a single screen, as opposed to the max of 4 on the old unit. Worth every penny if you like to monitor vitals.

My towing screen is setup for coolant temp, oil temp, oil pressure, trans temp, current gear, lockup status, boost psi, voltage, intake air temp.

plugged my SG II / XG into from my Gen3 Taco into my Gen3 Tundra last night. Software is V 4.52. PID's displayed included Trans Pan temp, Oil temp, Coolant temp, Alternator output. The only one that I had programmed from the Taco that did not work was the Trans Converter Temp. I know the Converter Temp always ran higher than the Pan temp when towing, but they both equalized eventually under all driving conditions. So now my focus is turned on where to mount. Leaning to the top of the steering column. I see Etsy has a mounting pad for other Toyota vehicles for this application, but the Tundra is not noted - sure looks like it would fit - flat top surface and rounded / curved under surface that contours over the steering column. Cheap like $15. The PID's I have came from the manufacturer web site and were for the 3.5 liter Toyota/Lexus vehicles. Hope this helps others. GL.

Good stuff! I really dig the SGIII so far. My only complaint is the lack of mounting options but hopefully that will change with time. Its been a while since I had a scangauge (an early II model I believe?) which was on a 2nd gen Tacoma. Cant recall if it had programmable alarms or not.. One thing I set up on the new SGIII is a transmission temperature alarm. This should help alert me if the truck is getting into sketchy transmission temperature territory, especially while towing through the mountain passes. The truck should also let me know through a MIL for what that's worth, but I'm not sure at exactly what temp that will happen and would rather not find out. So far trans temp has kept to around 220-225F max, 200ish average, on 95-100F degree days, towing right around 5k lbs through fairly mountainous areas. You can start to see the temperature moderate around those max temps which is presumably the transmission's thermal bypass valve opening up which then allows transmission fluid to start flowing through the cooling circuit. Keeping the truck in Tow+ certainly seems to help keep the trans temps in check - no surprise there as the lock up pattern is modified and no OD.

All great news. So PIDS for the converter and pan temps do exist for the trans. We just gotta figure out how the harvest the number and equation codes for them.

I am using the OBDLink MX+ and I dont see trans temp. Would like to get that on here somehow if anyone knows the method. It would be better if Toyota put a numeric value along with the bar image under Towing Gauges for the digital cluster.

I had the same issue - I downloaded Car Scanner and upgraded to the Pro version, but still couldn't find trans temp. But I played around with the "Connection profile" until I found one that has readings/sensors that actually show values. I tried several and wasn't getting many readings, until I tried the one titled "Toyota OBD-II / EOBD ~2016 - n.d. CAN + extra sensors." Once I selected this one it showed a bunch of sensors including trans temp. It states it as "pan" temp, but hopefully it will serve the purpose.

Here you can see what my dashboard looks like while driving.

For reference, I use a Veepeak OBDCheck BLE+ Bluetooth scanner tool.
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076XVQMVS?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Hopefully this helps someone else, as I struggled for quite a while to find a way to display trans temp for my Tundra.

the important one is the converter temp which runs higher than the pan temp. thats the one that can jump up to 220F or higher during loaded. the pan temp wont really fluctuate as much as the converter temp.

it was so easy on the old gen's

But did you find any of these to work on the 3rd Gen Tundra? - The Trans PIDS for my 3rd Gen Tacoma did not work for the Trans Temps.

I just tried Torque Pro with a cheap generic OBD2 reader and an Android tablet and was able to easily create a Transmission Temp gauge that worked. Just have to add a new gauge to the screen and select transmission temp as the input. I wasn't able to find a way to display the current gear. There is a Toyota plug-in you can buy for $5 but the reviews seem to indicate that only a few vehicles are supported and I can't find a list of which ones are supported.
