I'm transitioning to a Tundra from years of owning Tacomas and in the markey. I saw this Concrete Grey TRD Pro on CL and not sure if this year is a good year. I know CL is kind of sketch but if this is a decent purchase I'll consider the purchase. Here is the data:

    Miles: 147,000
    Price: $38,500
Previously owned commercially or by government

Based on the headlights/wheels…I believe this is the year TRD Pro before the Fox shocks came out…I think it uses the bilstein setup with the a added reservoir. Seems a bit pricey for the mileage but in the current market, hard to say. Personally wouldn’t pay a premium for that year TRD Pro versus a limited/platinum/1794.

Thanks 1P7R9O4 and Medicineman for your feedback. Yes I understand that this post might be a little light on the vehicle specifics, but from the CL ad the pictures of the interior and exterior look clean but as far as the mechanics and reliability for the particular year, I was interested in gaining additional info. I didn't know that the 2017 is probably the year before the Fox and Reservoir Bilsteins, and based on the mileage I was wondering if 147k miles is likely to result in some major maintenance updates, like timing chain or gasket leaks. Not quite sure.

It has a hitch receiver in the front? First time I'm seeing this setup. Looks like the truck has been put to use.

Yes. I saw that too. Being that the ad mentions it was a commercial or government vehicle, makes you kinda wonder what kind of stuff this truck has seen, LOL.

2017 is the best model year because it’s the last year without the TSS crap. It would have come with the Billstein PRO shocks which were good but with that mileage would probably need replaced shortly if not already done. I would check on maintenance routine and if that looked good I wouldn’t have a problem with that mileage. Good Luck with your decision….

I would also question why if it was commercially or government owned/used is it on CL? Not sure if that is the usual liquidation point for most government/commercial entities? Did someone get at auction and is reselling? If so, why? And, as above posters mentioned, maintenance history would be a must. Love that year and color.

Thanks for the inputs. The truck is posted in CL New Mexico and yes, its a little suspect for the ad to state that is commercial or government owned. $28k would be a great price.

If it’s within your price range I would spend another 3-5k and I think you can find a similar TRD pro with much less mileage. This is assuming you’ve got your heart set on the TRD pro trim.

If you are in NM I believe the market in Phoenix is pretty good. That’s where I found mine back in October, and I drove there from NM to purchase it.

I bought my platinum with 173k for 18k. No way I'd pay almost 40k for a truck with that many miles. In today's market I'd pay 28k max as others users have suggested, but I'd be more comfortable around 24k. I believe someone bought this at a government auction for around 15-20k and is trying to make a quick buck since the market is hot.

I'm not sure I would buy ANYTHING that was previously owned by the government, without a significantly reduced price. Way too many unknowns.

Thanks everyone for your great input. You all are a great resource!! At the end of the day today, I found and I bought a 2020 Tundra CrewMax TRD Pro Charcoal!! At 25k miles I believe I got an exceptional deal, $57k. So happy with this purchase and find.

It is probably a BLM bureau of land management truck if New Mexico. Bumpy oilfield roads and plenty of dirt. I wouldn't be scares but I'd offer 28 as previous guy mentioned.

Here are some pictures. I haven't moved since I brought it home last night. This truck is immaculate! There are no mudstains in the engine compartment, wheel wells, frame, etc. I do not believe this truck even knows what dirt is  It came with the OEM tonneau cover, and to my surprise spay on bed-liner and the cage extension. And it's still has some Toyota care left on it. The previous owner must have only taken it out on Sundays, it's practically brand new. Again, thank you all for the help. I'm a new member and looking forward to this new group of Tundra owners!

Yes, that heavily modded 4Runner is well prepped to go Target for the wife, LOL. Over the years, I've done some nice mods to it and she surprised me in wanting to load it down with some sliders, C4 Bumper, Old Man Emu lift, and TRD Exhaust. I told her that her gas mileage will suck and the exhaust will have a drone, BUT she didn't' care. She wants to keep the. mods going! LOL. In all fairness, we do and have used the 4Runner to run across the New Mexico desert for miles to visit family. We have family on that live on the Navajo reservation and the dirt roads often get rutted out from large gas trucks, but in the summer the roads are washboard and rough in some places. It's been a great ride for the family and perfect size for the Mrs. It's a great looking vehicle when cleaned up.
