So I have a 16 4wd w 35's. My stock brake system is just not enough and plus when I hit the pedal qui k n hard it activates ABS and has to figure shhh out before settling into its slowdown. It's only like a second but that's forever when trying to stop. And i just got my whipple kit so that's not gunna help. I got the stoptech whole caliper, big brake rotor, steel lines for the front kit for like $2300 and it's literally the same, in fact they fade even earlier, badly. This is borderline dangerous. Wtf do I have to do I was just gunna let it go but I don't want mediocre. It's only a 3in lift on icons. I'm literally up for replacing the whole gd system w some other vehicles if I have to. Anyone have a similar setup seeing the same crap

Wait. So are the brakes stock or do you have a bbk? You said your stock brake stated is not enough then mentioned a bbk.

Sorry yea it is a stop tech big b kit that u have to have 20s for. I forget the mm. But u have ta mount a larger bracket and everything to hold the new caliper. It was the full front kit. Rotors calipers n front lines

I dont want to mention the vendor really but olmost all they do is yotas and it was like 2499ish msrp. It changed literally nothing but def had a lower fade threshold if I get frisky and the feel and performance stayed absolutely the same and I bled them 3x

Cant imagine a big brake kit fading faster than stock but here we are. They said to change the rear lines to steel also and that would help but I feel like we're just too far off from where I want to be here

Who did the install of the new calipers? It’s possible there is some air in the line

Nah I bled them a few times..you can usually tell. The pedal would have a more pillowy feel

The Stoptechs come with an aggressive compound pad. Did you do a full bed in procedure?

Eh nah, and I kinda figured maybe I shoulda but I just went right to normal light driving around town. Never did any prescribed heat cycling. Is it important enough to effect it in this manner

I’ve ran the Stoptechs a couple times and you 100% have to do a proper bed in. The pads function off the friction developed from pad material transfer on the rotor from doing the bed in. They aren’t like ceramics where you can just install and go.

That’s one of the reasons I don’t run the Stoptech pads anymore and went back to oems. You have to run the stop techs hard on a daily basis, or they just won’t perform. Your issue is going to be finding other brake pads that will be compatible with the stop tech calipers.

Oh, well hell. So can I like really lightly turn the rotors and get a new set of pads and break in or just wait and wear these out

    Too many mods to come
Big brake kits should absolutely be bedded in correctly. The performance difference from stock to that kit should be very noticeable. Most aftermarket kits and pads all require a bed in process.

And if you’re still having problems you should move to a better kit like this .

Man I did a decent amount of research before I did it too lol. on the kit anyways . Thought it was gunna be atleast noticeable. But I guess I'll just wait till I wear these pads out or something and start again on a cleaned up rotor surface. A lot of ppl said this was the kit to use because it took into account the tundras brake cylinder size thus was vehicle specific. I can't stand having sub par brakes, I have the scharger, coilovers, icon hydraulic bstops, trd sways. I mean I went w all top end stuff so it would all play together and this is gunna hold back the end product. I'll try braided rear lines maybe to see if that helps for now.

Would definitely suggest a full bleed as well if you haven’t done so yet. SS brake lines could help too!

Just go do a proper bed in on the current pads and see if it improves.
