So, my Tundra came with P275/65R18 114T tires and I tow a 25 ft travel trailer. Is this to light a tire for safe towing. Looking at Falken Widepeak tires with an E rating.

I thinking going to a LT tire with a higher ply rating is going to stiffen the ride some, I don't care but the wife hates a rough riding truck. My concern is towing with a P rated tires is a safety issue. I have towed several times with these tires and had no problems, am I asking for trouble using these tires?

    Welcome from Oregun,
The loaded weight of the trailer dictates what is safe. What's the weight of the trailer?
114= 2600lbs per tire max load. With a 25' travel trailer you might be pushing your luck as most of that weight is on the back tires. With a 5th wheel it's distribution is more even.

There’s LT C rated tires, FYI.

The craptastic P Metric tires are rated for what the Tundra can tow or haul. If ride is a concern, trust me, Load Range E’s will flat out piss your wife off.

I have d rated KO2s on my tundra (max load single 2835 #s). Does this mean I should be able to support up to 11,340 lbs thus allowing me to safely tow and TT that's within my limits?

My trailer is 5952 dry, I don't put much into it when going places to keep it as light as I can. Perhaps 500 lbs total, I also use a weight distribution hitch and it keeps it level.

This is one of the few things that irks me with vehicle manufactures today. The sizing on tires has either put you in LR E or P metric, with a few LR C options.

Some of my buddies with 20" wheels on their diesels are putting out 300.00+ per tire for the load rating needed (load index 126). That is a chunk of change every 30-40K...if even that.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
I have the exact tires you are considering (LT275/75/18). They are great All terrains for the price ($600). However they do ride significantly rougher, even with me running them at 35psi. They do provide better handling than my old tires though, and they seem to be very durable.

Yeah I’m thinking of the D rated KO2 when my tires are worn out. I too have worried about the stock load tires when towing as they look a little low on pressure despite being at 40 pounds cold. Sidewall says max is 44. I think the D rated KO2 are 55 max.

Oh, and if I inflate to what the door sticker says the tires look way low when the truck is empty. So I just keep them at 40 all around. They are wearing nice at that pressure.

Edit: Firestone Destination that look like car tires are what I have currently

@shimloom I had my E rated BGF KO2s installed today, I'll let you know how they ride tomorrow!

Thanks for all the input. This whole tire and ratings thing is a bit confusing and trying to figure out the best tire to achieve good ride and good towing is a pain.

I tow a 25 foot hybrid camper that has a dry weight of about 6200 lbs. I run E rated Michelin Defender LTX M/S. I run them at 50 psi and don't really notice much difference in ride stiffness from the stock p rated tires. They have a less aggressive tread pattern than all terrains, so that may contribute to that some. I absolutely love them.
