Our manual says to exchange front to back and back to front, no crossover.

Is there a good reason for that? I know some tires are directional, but most aren't. I think I've read tire manufacturing methods used to dictate that you couldn't reverse direction of a tire as it could come apart at high speeds or something? But I think I've read that's no longer the case?

Do you switch side to side?

With the non directional tires I always use, it's drive wheels straight and non drive cross to other side. I belive tire wear paterns are kept to a minimum, and longer tire lifespan when rotated that way.

Fuel delete mod Cup holder upgrade
I drive in reverse 50% of the time thus eliminating the need for rotation.

I have switched front tires side to side for a pulling issue with no problem. ..I've always done front to back , back to front same side..Sure there are many opinions..
